We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheldon Roberts and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sheldon, why did you pursue a creative career?
I pursued this career because it allows me to continuously think outside of the box and come up with “new” ways of training. Though I am not reinventing the wheel, I love trying to come up with creative movements that can make training fun and productive at the same time for people.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a golf fitness trainer, where I have been in the golf fitness industry for a year and a half. It is a niche market but it is definitely growing. For me, instagram has played a big part in my growth and exposure to the golf fitness community. It has allowed me to be creative with workouts, network with other great golf fitness trainers and golf professionals to better my craft. I still have a long way to go but I know that I am headed in the right direction. The biggest lesson I’ve learned along the way, and what I want people to know, is #BECOMFORTABLEBEINGUNCOMFORTABLE. I put it in every single one of my posts because it is something I live by. I’ve gotten to where I am now by stepping out of my comfort zone and trying to reach further and further.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love spending my time at home whenever I get the chance. With a busy schedule, I tend to always be on the road heading to point A, B, and C. So, I cherish the time I have when I can sleep in, watch some tv, and enjoy a bowl of fruity pebbles without having to be somewhere in the next hour and traveling through the LA traffic. Though I am a homebody, there are several places where people can find me: The Golf Course, Taco Truck, or A Magic Show. One of my favorite golf courses is Angeles National Golf Course . I love taking friends, or clients to this course because it is always challenging and the course is well maintained. After a long day of playing golf (or on Tuesdays), you can find me at my local taco truck, Doty’s Tacos in Torrance, Ca. These tacos always hit the spot! The line can be long, but the people are always friendly. Last but not the least, I am a nerd for a good magic show. I have been to different shows around Los Angeles and highly recommend them to people who have not seen one.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of people who have helped me along my journey that I would like to give a shoutout to but there are two people/persons that played the biggest role in the little bit of success I have now. First would be my brother, Ashton Roberts. He is the one who got me started with fitness. I came into fitness only knowing what I have learned from playing sports but didn’t have the structure or overall knowledge. Not having a strong foundation in the mechanics of fitness, this lead me to study and get certified in various fitness areas. Being able to shadow Ashtons’ sessions and learn how to bring fitness to other people, only encouraged me to learn more on how the mind and body connect. Ashton inspired me to continue to evolve my education in fitness and find interesting ways to share the knowledge that I learned. He definitely got the ball rolling in finding my way into the fitness community. Secondly, I would like to shoutout Urban Golf Performance (UGP) for giving me a chance to be a part of a growing company. I consider them a family who is helping me grow both in my professional career and as a person. Though I see them as I mentor, they have allowed me to be creative in fitness. Here I am able to share my knowledge about fitness and golf to help others. Urban Golf Performance is an amazing team of individuals who challenge me to be better everyday,
