We had the good fortune of connecting with Tim Sabatino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor for me is to continue moving forward towards success no matter what happens in my life. To flourish and prosper no matter what. When I say success, I mean survival. As an artist and photographer in Los Angeles, I have been attacked by competition and people who just like to squash artists. So to keep my mind set in the future and on my future goals without letting myself get down due to invalidation has worked the best for me. I am definitely a hard worker, meaning I work a lot, long hours, 7 days per week with a positive attitude. I am excited to book every job.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have created several series of paintings. I started with an acrylic series and all are sold except for 2. Then I created a series of oil paintings with lots of mixed media on them, subjects mostly portraits. I am most excited about my new series of oil paintings and the subject matter is eyes. These paintings are very large and the eyes communicate different feelings or emotions. What sets me apart from others is my style which is entirely unique. I get these ideas and I put them into reality. As far as my art goes, I have always been an artist. I don’t know how to not be an artist. As for my photography, is started in high school when I wanted to photograph my girlfriend and friends so that I could paint from the photograph instead of having them sit for me. I drew and painted slow then, but not now. Now I am a very fast painter. Photography was only used for that and a hobby then but because my full time job when I was 24. That happened because I got a job at a camera store selling cameras to pay for my college while I was getting my degree in fine art. After shooting large photo shoot of many actors and models, my photography has led me into directing, and this has expanded to directing music videos, commercials and short films. One lesson I’ve learned is of the importance of giving my clients an exchange of abundance, meaning, always give them more than they expected. This will almost always guarantee a return client, but definitely a happy one. I didn’t used to do this, I learned the hard way. Also always give each job 100%. Don’t skim or end short, Don’t be lazy. I would love for the world to know my work. I would love to inspire many artists, directors and photographers.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I love the beach. I have surfed Malibu since I was a teenager. If I had an out of town guest visiting, I would take my guest to Malibu for the day then to Hollywood for dinner. One of my favorite restaurants is Yamashiros in the Hollywood Hills. I’m also a big hiker. I would take them on a hike at the hills around the Griffith Observatory. If we had time, I’d take them to Avalon on Catalina Island and include a whale watching boat trip. I’d also probably drive them all over LA for a great tour. I love to drive so that’s a lot of fun.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I grew up in an artists household. My Mother and Grandmother are artists and were always painting a home. I owe a lot to them both for always creating at home. I am very grateful to them for supporting me for always wanting to take every available art class in school. My Mother always encouraged and validated me for my art. I also believe in constantly learning and self-improving. I read 10-15 hours per week. Even to this day I am learning, reading, studying subjects like personal self, sales, business, administration, more art. My favorite book ever that has tremendously contributed to my business is The Art Book by L. Ron Hubbard. Best book ever!
