We had the good fortune of connecting with Makaela Logan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Makaela, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
To start off, I am an adrenaline junkie- I love every action sports possible and I am always looking for the next thing to keep me on my toes. With that, I also love schedules and keeping things in order- you can probably imagine how crazy my thought process is at all times. I took a huge risk by ending a relationship that I was ready to settle down in and start a family with. I came out as being lesbian right after this part of my life ended. I am the happiest I have ever been in my entire life! Being a textbook over-thinker, I was terrified of being the woman my inner self continued to push out of me. I feel this initial risk of being myself is the first of many risks I continue to face everyday-not just as a member of LGBTQ+ community, but in my everyday life as a business owner. Part of me wants to jump out of my schedule and take a risk of following through with a random idea and seeing how my followers respond to it; yet the other side of me knows that this risk (if not planned correctly) can also not be executed properly resulting in a failed business plan, With risk comes experience and knowledge that you might have not understood had we not taken this risk in the first place. Failure is always an opportunity to learn and grow. For the longest time, I did not understand this until I took a risk and looked at it from a perspective I didn’t agree with. I am so happy that I finally learned to listen to that inner voice a few years ago because it has created a career path I didn’t know existed. I have my Bachelor’s of Science in Kinesiology with plans of entering my Doctorates for Physical Therapy. I took a huge leap and decided to take a couple years off from pushing through in a career I wasn’t completely excited about anymore. I learned happiness doesn’t have to be on the scheduled path that we all begin our career on. I have created an amazing support system and following that I love what I do today, and every day I wake up I continue to be the best version of myself not just for my friends, family, and fans, but most importantly for ME. Without risk, we forget who we are by staying in the social construct of how we view ourselves in the world today. TAKE THAT RISK because you never know where it can lead you in your journey down the line.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am living in Oceanside, Ca and employed as a Bartender. I have found an entirely new love for creating drinks and cultivating an environment that is exciting and happy to be apart of. From bartending, my social media went viral over night and I have been able to create an amazing following from it. With that, I am a self-employed business owner of my own brand. All of my services are offered through my website, with merchandise dropping soon, and tattoo modeling working its own magic. I am so excited to be starting this business with such a strong support system from family and friends to all my social media support. This process is definitely a struggle every day I wake up because I want to do what is best for my company while providing what my consumers are interested in. My brand is me and the lifestyle I live everyday. From skating to bartending to adventures in my truck camper system, I am excited to bring a clothing line that everyone can relate to.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend on a bike ride down the Strand (a bike path on the beach of San Diego) and take the bikes to some nearby small business shops. I would take them to downtown Carlsbad and Oceanside and finally ending at the beach to relax and hang out. The meditation garden in Encinitas is a MUST. Some hikes would be to Calavera, San Clemente, San Elijo, and Black’s Beach.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family has been the biggest support system from the beginning. In fear of losing them when I came out in my sexuality, I gained such a stronger connection with every one of my family members. Gherm, Popi Dave, Mom, Dad, Nick, Meghan, Amanda, and so many more family members are the biggest foundation I have grown from. I am also grateful for my year of sobriety I completed in 2020. I set out to do a month and went over a year to work on myself and creating my business in the bartending and modeling industry. Thank you to everyone who influenced me in that entire year of self-reflection and deep inner work that had been clouded for so long. A huge shoutout to Glennon Doyle and her most recent book “Untamed”. This book along with: “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tole, “The Mastery of Love” by Don Miguel Ruiz, “Be Love Now” and “Be Here Now” by Baba Ramdass, changed my outlook on life and how I view myself in this world. To my friends in Oceanside, Ca. who changed my life by just being present when I didn’t know I needed them. You all know who you are 🙂
