We had the good fortune of connecting with An. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi An., what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is unavoidable. There’s going to come a time where you’re going to have to choose either going down the safe route or taking the path with more challenges, but a better outcome. It’s easy to hear or think “risk” and perceive it as a negative but it’s just another possible opportunity. Your mentality going into anything really matters most. I think for me, trying to remember the why in everything I do is enough motivation to make the jump in new opportunities.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m very excited to be putting out another project. COVID-19 was heavy on a lot of people for many different reasons and as always, music was a way I coped with everything gong on. It felt great getting back in the studio and working on some new shit after the world was on pause. It’s crazy thinking now where I am, I wouldn’t have necessarily saw myself here in this position but I’m thankful it happened this way. I could’ve given up so many times but I chose to stick it out. This is what I love, you know? I literally couldn’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing than making music until the end of time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There is so much to get into in this city. It just depends on what you want to do… Even though we’re probably always in Brooklyn haha Usually my friends and I are either working on a project, talking about a project or eating! The brainstorm usually happens at DRTY SMMR, a local shop in Brooklyn, my stylist is based out of currently. There we’ll roll up and drink a little bit before we venture out and see what we get into. Theres a good chance we’ll run into a friend or something so that turns into lunch or dinner very easily. I will say that for me, Soho and midtown have some of the best cuisine. My favorite spot is The Boil in the LES. OMG its so good and I’ve almost put all the homies on to it. If you love sea food I definitely think you should pop in. After a few days of just hanging out though we’ll switch gears and get a little more creative during weekends. Now that everyone works and shit it’s just been easier to link up around then. My friends and I are getting our band back together so that’ll be fun to build out during the summer. Who knows, maybe we’ll even play another show. For now we’re still just creating and learning about what we love and what we hate. I’m not too much of a mixie person so I leave it up to my friends to introduce me to new people when we go out. I have to be in a real relaxed setting for that to happen organically for me. If I go to a show or something Im there to soak up the performers so I don’t really mingle too much. Ill catch a vibe and then dip to something else happening that night probably. I’m hoping this lifestyle will feel normal again by this summer. Covid-19 has restricted a lot of performance spaces and studios us artists use. Not to mention the disappearing venues. I have hope for my city though. We not letting this lifestyle go without a fight lol Im excited to be ripping these streets again.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I definitely have to give a shout out to my stylist Trevon Reffell. Before anything, him and I are basically brother and sister. We’ve been through hell and back together and he’s someone I appreciate very much. He’s been around since my basement rapping days and now that i’m tapping into another part of my artistry, we’ve been working closely together on ideas we’ve been constructing for years. He’s really the G.O.A.T. I can’t wait to see what we create next.
