Meet Lucas Tadini: Performer, Songwriter, Record Producer and Educator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lucas Tadini and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lucas, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I see art as a means to an end. My final goal isn’t to make art, but it is through it that I can express wherever I see and feel, including relevant matters regarding our social reality. Making art is a great way to combine all of my skills and knowledge to create something that is able to express what I am. Pursuing art as career was something natural, part of my way of life. I didn’t really have to think about it, it was something that happened organically.I believe art is precious and it is the best, if not the only, way to transcend the chaos of our existence.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I strive to make something that innovative and distinguished – I like to create, regardless of how good or bad it may seem. My music is about matters that I believe to be of relevance, and all of my work is full of references regarding things that have impacted me in a way, such as literature, movies, history, sociology, and so on. I consider myself to be an academic – that is how I was musically trained and how I furthered my studies regarding different subjects such as history, linguistics and sociology – and that is an intrinsic part of my work, since I believe art and politics (and all that is happening in our society) shouldn’t – and can’t – be separated. Music might be what people associate me with, but it is only a small part of what I do and what I hope to achieve. I want people to actually feel something when they listen to my music, whether that is rage, love, happiness or sorrow. Music is my way of getting to people, and from there I hope I am able to express whatever it is I need to.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my Go To spots is Salsa & Beer in Sun Valley – amazing Mexican food, cheap beer and it’s right by where I live! A few other spots where I like to take visitors for a beer are the Yard House in Burbank, the Robin Hood Pub in Sherman Oaks and Stout Burgers & Beers in Hollywood. My favorite restaurants in town are probably the Brazilian ones, Bossa Nova Brazilian Kitchen and Pampas Grill – they both have multiple locations across the city. For Italian food, I’d recommend the cozy Ciao Cristina in the Valley. A visit to LA is not complete without some outdoor activity, so I’d recommend the Hollywood reservoir and Echo Park as places to just sit down and appreciate the view. I can’t say I have a favorite beach but anything around Malibu would be a solid choice. The Getty is also a great place to just sit down and relax, maybe grab a beer and appreciate the amazing view of the city – and of course, check out the museum, which is pretty awesome. I also just really love walking around the canals in Venice. And regarding night life, there are infinite possibilities. I love the karaoke nights at the Moroccan Lounge and sometimes I find myself at the Staples Center to watch the Lakers. I also enjoy exploring new bars and going to live shows at the Sunset Strip (Viper Room, Whiskey a GoGo, The Rainbow, State Social House, etc). And, of course, California is known for its natural beauty and diversity, so I’d recommend exploring the many different ecosystems around LA (going for a hike, camping, exploring the desert, going to the beach, etc)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My Parents, my friends, all of my professors and peers at Berklee College of Music, UCLA, Harvard and Oxford, and the city of Los Angeles. A shout out also to some of my biggest aspirations in art and in life: Vincent Van Gogh, The Beatles, Hayao Miyazaki, Milton Nascimento, Paulo Freire, Guimarães Rosa, Gabriel García Márquez, Friedrich Nietzsche, José Saramago, Janis Joplin, Lady Gaga and Salvador Dalí, to name a few. And, of course, a shout out to my cat Lucifer, who keeps me sane during this dystopia.
