We had the good fortune of connecting with Marc Robillard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marc, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’m definitely the kind of person who always needs to be creating, building, working on something that inspires me and hopefully will inspire others as well. I really don’t think pursuing an artistic or creative career was a choice to tell you the truth, for me it was just a direction I’ve always gone and continue to go on a daily basis, like a never ending road. As cheesy as it sounds, it really chose me, now my undertaking is trying to make it work in this life of mine.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a singer-songwriter, producer and composer. You ask what sets me apart from others in my field? I guess I would have to say me, my outlook, my personality, my creative intuition and my experience, I think that’s ultimately really what sets us all apart isn’t it? I’m really excited about my new single “Heart and Soul” that just came out April 1st, I worked hard crafting this song and am exited to share it with the world! I’m also excited about learning how to better my craft on a daily basis, how to be a more effective/impactful writer/musician. I got to where I am today professionally, through hard work, dedication, enthusiasm, commitment and inspiration, without those, I’m not sure you can get anywhere. Was it easy? Hmmmmmmm that depends on how you define easy? Anything we do has its ups and downs, its challenges and triumphs, probably staying positive and knowing and reminding myself of this keeps me on track. The lessons, stay in in your own lane, don’t compare yourself to others, work on what’s in front of you at the present moment, be kind, empathetic and patient with yourself and others as well, everyone makes mistakes, fails and falls, keep getting back up and try again!! I want the world to know that we are all part of the whole and when we come together in unity, we will triumph in anything we do! 🙂
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So many great things to see and do in LA! I’d say first off, lets go for a surf, maybe catch some waves in Malibu or Manhattan beach. After that if we’re in Malibu, grab a bite to eat at Malibu Seafood mmmmm or maybe some amazing Thai at Cholada, if we go to Manhattan beach maybe grab a beer at the always vibrant and bustling Simzy’s or at at the classic North End Bar and Grill. Gotta check out the Getty’s amazing gardens and spectacular views at some point while in LA. Catch a live music show at The Greek Theater or something more intimate at the Hotel Cafe. If we head downtown definitely a visit to Bottega Louie for some dinner and amazing desserts! Then a nightcap at The hidden Varnish room just down the road. Dodger Stadium is a must if you wanna feel what LA is really all about, catch a game, some fireworks and hopefully a bobble head! Next day to get rid of your hangover grab a #19 at Langer’s Delicatessen, I promise you will not be disappointed! Then maybe a hike up Los Lionne’s, you can see all of LA once up at the top! So many more great spots and things to do, this is just the tip of the iceberg!!! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So when I first started writing my own songs I was working at a music house in Toronto. One of the engineers there, Annelise Noronha helped me record and produce my first EP. She believed in me and my music at the very beginning and through that, gave me the confidence to move down the path of believing my art had value. I think that was definitely a point which needs a strong shoutout!!! Thanks Anna Banana!!!! xo
