Meet Assaf Raz

We had the good fortune of connecting with Assaf Raz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Assaf, what principle do you value most?
Above else, I value liberty.
Through my life, I grew to understand that the world, which I “see,” is a byproduct of my own goggles. Due to that, I appreciate the endless opportunity to reevaluate and choose my actions. I hold this to be a inalienable right, irrespective of consensus or lack of.
The above ethos runs through the core of our company. The employees are free to express themselves, regardless to the subject or sensitivity. In my view, it has helped us to nourish a strong bond, which carried us through troubled times.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I was a kid in age, I desired to have a life of creation, regardless to its end goal. I dare say that I succeeded. My creativity spreads over various projects. Yet, I’m most excited about my Writer vocation.
As I look at my professional life, it wasn’t straight road by any means. It was quite hard with years of having nothing by mountains of debt. In retrospect, much of the difficulties were deficiencies within my own character. It doesn’t help to blame anyone else. This realization has helped me to grew stronger and persevere.
As for the Shout-out itself, I prefer to take a step back, and rather focus on our company, Dogtown Coffee.
This wondrous entity, its staff and customers, are the parts that make an amazing story. A tale of continuation and respect, which honors the legendary Dogtown History.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a tough question for me to answer as I never got to know my own city. I lived in Venice for almost 25-years, it took me 17-years to see the Hollywood sign (by mistake).
Thus, I’d tell my friend to spend a day (or two) seeing all the tourist stuff and then let’s hit the open road. We’d go up the Redwoods, along the Pacific ocean, and immerse ourselves in nature.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my journey to the following:
1. My mom, who listenes without boundries. Regardless to the fact, that we rarely agree.
2. My younger brother and sister, who form with me the “Traingular of Power,” our safety net that never fails.
3. My beloved wife, who is a dreamer herself. With her, aiming to live in fantasy is The Way.
4. Honored Ayn Rand, whose life work has provided me with the footprint for the man I aspire to be.
