We had the good fortune of connecting with Erika Ancien and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erika, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Having a solid morning routine that sets my intentions for the day, and the vibration of my thoughts. It took me a while to figure out the right balance of free-flowing and rigid, and it finally feels like my own. Meditating every day, and a quick movement routine have become non-negotiable no matter where I am!
Also, calendaring and time blocking everything as much as possible. I do this digitally, but also use a paper diary to assess the wins and areas for improvement at the end of the day, as well as set up the tasks for the next day.
What should our readers know about your business?
I run a wellness consulting business! I am a one-woman show, and help my clients overcome a myriad of problems concerning their health. I am a personal trainer, yoga instructor, and wellness coach, and I love that I can empower my clients to do things they never thought they could do, and fit a description of “healthy” like they never thought they could.
I’ve gotten where I have by being honest, and genuinely caring about my clients lives – because health isn’t singularly about movement, or diet, or stress. It’s so many factors combined and I care about finding the details that make a difference to change someone’s life for the better. It has definitely not been easy! I have learned to do things as a business owner far outside of my “skill set” as a trainer and coach. But it has been true growing and learning process and I am just so excited to be able to make health and wellness more and more accessible and attainable to everyone!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ohhh so much! Sights: The beach! Venice and Malibu (the pier, and the village, farmers market) Santa Monica for small store shopping
Eats: Republique, Rosaline, Thaitown, El Coyote, Mozza Pizza
Views: Griffith observatory, Descanso gardens, DTLA rooftops (The standard, Perch) Topanga canyon for hiking
and depending on if they’re open – music venues etc The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mum. She is a constant source of love that never fails to jump behind anything that I do. Also, my circle. My friends have been there through many tough times, periods of doubt and insecurity, and helped me celebrate the wins as well. And the ever present support and connection I have with my clients is ultimately the reason I am where I am!
I’m constantly reading, but most recently the books that have recently renewed my drive and faith have been High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard and The Bhagavad Gita
