We had the good fortune of connecting with Juan Gollaz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Juan, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
One thing about tattooing that people is unaware of is the talent behind it. Most people don’t understand that tattooing is not just copying or tracing but an art form that needs a lot of practice to be perform.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My style of tattooing is black and grey. From animal portraits, flowers to LA chicano culture I’m all about it. What set people apart from others is quality work and I tried my best to give that.
It’s been a long road to get to the point where people recognize your work. A lot practice, time invested, hang with the right people and most of the time learn from your mistakes.
I would like people to know that art comes not as a hobby but more a passion and that is a difference from people that do it from either or.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Everytime someone visits me I will take them to check out Venice beach. In a weekend if possible. Morning walk to Venice boardwalk to check all the people there. Watch a game of basketball or handball while we have some simple breakfast at the benches.
Check some of the graffiti pieces or go to see the skaters at the skate park.
From there rent a bike a ride it to Santa Monica pier and check some stores at 3rd st.
In the evening I will take my friend to eat and have some drinks at Casablanca restaurant in Venice. You can’t beat the handmade flour tortillas they made there, the good food and a good spot to chill.
Echo park lake and a drive to downtown LA won’t hurt either. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Some credit to my success goes to the shop I’ve work for the past years, black diamond in Venice, as they gave me the opportunity to grow artistically in many ways
