We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Seabolt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I think it’s a matter of if you still love what you’re doing or not. Every time I book a Directing gig it’s like Christmas, first day of school, and my birthday all rolled into one. If you don’t find passion in what you’re doing then what’s the point in making yourself do it. Life’s to short not to chase your dreams and be happy!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My work is all about trying to find a new way to tell a story! Try new camera movements or lighting setups that have never been seen before. Always try to create something new and unique.

How did I get where I am at today? That’s a tough one, I have always been a wonderer. Every since I was a little kid I would always wonder off and seek adventure. I guess that mixed with my knack for storytelling is how I ended up in LA and chasing the Directing dream!

I wish I could say it was easy but I guess if it was easy everyone would be doing it! I still struggle with challenges every day. Wither it be the cost of living or trying to find work to pay the bills while pursuing passion projects. The fact that I know I am not the only one with those struggles and the drive to Direct is what keeps me going!

I’ve learned many lessons along the way. One is don’t ever put your health before anything else. You only get one shot at life and if you burn yourself out or make yourself sick with stress then is it really worth it. Another one I learned is to always do what you love. If you’re working in a career that makes you miserable then maybe thats not the right job for you. I know the day I stop waking up excited before a shoot day is the day I start looking for a new career! Always chase what you love!

I guess I want to world to know that I will always give 100% of my heart to any project I work on. If you see any of my films or read any of my scripts please know that the reason I wrote those is for you. I love the idea of people going to the movies and forgetting about their lives for a while. Forgetting about the bills, work, drama, etc and just relaxing and being entertained by some thing I made! That brings me the most joy!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I feel like I am signing up for a dating site or some thing. I guess I would show them the coast. I have always been a beach bum so we’d probably start in Marina Del Rey and work our way out to Oxnard! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think the people who encouraged me the most were my parents. They’ve always supported me know matter how crazy of an idea or insane adventure Im going on.
