We had the good fortune of connecting with GVE MIKE and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GVE, how do you think about risk?
When it comes to risk, I used to play it really safe… but now I am open to taking risks more because I tend to do my research on what i’m getting involved in. Especially with music, you have to realize its all a risk and it may never “work out”, but if you believe in yourself, your skills, your drive and have a good network, you have a great chance of succeeding in your field.

If your career is your passion, I believe it will work out in the end for you. You may not be Drake at the end of the day but have a career that allows you to feed your family, build wealth and live the life your desire than in my mind your a success! It will take some time but believe in what you’re doing!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art comes from a place of pure emotion and passion. I like to produce, so when I make a beat that really strikes an emotion for me, I usually start writing and end up with a whole song. I recently started recording myself and looking to put out an EP in 2021. Everyone says it now, but creating a vibe to me is when I can make a song in the studio by myself and get my thoughts in order or frustrations out on paper. If I can enjoy hearing that song over and over, I know someone will gravitate towards that record when it releases. I want people to hear my music and feel that same energy and hopefully inspire them to do the same with their art.

I faced many challenges to get to where I am today having placements with Eric Bellinger, Ye Ali, Dribble2much, Jacy and more. Much of how I got my producer placements, I believe, was me being in the right place at the right time. When we are not seeing anything happening, sometimes we think negatively about the situation but if you can find your reason or the “why” to what you’re creating, that will help carry you through the tough times or challenging times. Im still not at the point in my music career I want to be in and I realize it will take time but I trust in my own abilities and have faith things will play out the way the universe wants it to.

One important lesson I learned is, if you really want something, you will find a way to make it happen!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a really close friend visiting and I had to show them around town, I would honestly take them to all of my other local friends events or parties. Any studio sessions happening, listening parties, certain business meetings and of course the most fire food spots in town. Im an outgoing introvert so i’m totally okay sitting in the house and loading up some sample packs, creating new sounds and gaming but I do like to go out and have a good time as well. I just find it so much easier to bring people to other events so then we can hang for a little while and decide to do something else without having a specific schedule.

Here would be my week long itinerary just to have some fun with it:
Monday – Get some amazing brunch / Studio Session / Play some unreleased music and get my friends feedback on the music.
Tuesday – Hit Fairfax and do some shopping / Connect with friends who are having events and support them
Wednesday – Film some content for social media / help my friends meet some people that can help advance their art career
Thursday – Lunch Meeting / Drinks at 1Oak LA / Studio Session
Friday – Basketball game / Lunch Meeting / Avenue LA / Studio Session
Saturday – Paintball / Talk about how fun paintball was Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When it comes to shouting out people, I would say watching people like Nipsey Hussle, Jay-Z and a number of other black entrepreneurs, I have learned so much about the music business from these guys and how to help others win in order to help yourself. I always try and take time to listen to others who have done so much for music and my culture as well because there is always something I can use to keep me going on my journey.

As far as my producer & artist development, I have a core group of people I speak to about my music and best ways to improve so shoutout to Dribble2much, Dash Sherrod, Alix and few others who show love!
