Meet Gigi Meroni: Composer and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Gigi Meroni and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gigi, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
I tried to establish a work routine, even at the beginning when I was not that busy…Saying yes to all the projects that were offered to me. Tried to deliver always high quality work on time and without creating any unnecessary drama with the producers/director. Also, kept updated on all the technical implications of my job and in general kept pushing the networking because I never knew what was going to happen at the end of a gig

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I write music for TV, mainly animation although I have done a good number of films but my main core is animation. It started about 20 years ago. I was doing music for independent movies then I started doing shows for an internet company called Icebox. Ita was the beginning of the .com era and that company started doing shows involving major Hollywood writers and directors, all animated. After they went down, I was brought to Warner Bros by one of them and got offered a couple of Scooby Doo movies straight to video that eventually led to scoring the What’s New Scooby Doo tv show that lasted 4 years. After that my work has been mainly in the animation world, as you can see on my website www.sonicvault.us

Lately, I have been expanding and I have a sfx department as well and I offer casting services for animated TV shows.

I’m also getting more involved in the actual production of tv series. One of the project I’m co producer is called Tori and Her Hair and it’s, at the moment, in pre-production.

One of the main reason I get work is that I have been traveling a lot in the past 4-5 years trying to meet more producers and creators all across the world…I used to just rely on work from LA but as soon as I started traveling I discover so many other countries were doing really good tv shows…like in Europe we have Italy, UK and France and in Asia there is Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore etc….So, the traveling has been very helpful in getting more connections all over.

After 20 years I still love working in animation, I have a lot of friends all over the world and in a sense you can call it a community. I love the fact that each production involves 3-4 countries working together on different aspect of a show and it has become a truly global way of working.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I really love the beach and surfing so I take all my friends that come visit me to the ocean. But I’ll probably start in Hollywood, driving around my area in the hills and looking over at the whole city, then prob we’d go for a hike in Runyon canyon then have sushi for dinner somewhere in Studio City.

Then for a trip on the coast we’d probably start in Malibu then drive all the way down to San Onofre and spend a couple of day there to surf. It’s by far my favorite spot to hang out and I’m there at least every Saturday with my Laurel Canyon surf guys to enjoy the park and the beach. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Hands down my parents for giving me the opportunity to leave my country to attend Berkleee College of Music in Boston and my wife that never complained in 20 plus years about my hectic and sometimes disorganized work schedule
