We had the good fortune of connecting with Devon Blow and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Devon, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Mindfulness and meditation. Also being consistent and lots and lots of practice.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is a reflection of things that are important to me, from social justice issues to mental health advocacy. It’s really important to me that in whatever I’m doing, I’m creating to uplift people first. Specifically my goal is to uplift marginalized communities in whatever ways I can.
Getting to where I am now was not easy, its still a process of growing and learning daily. My biggest challenges I’ve had to try to overcome are my own intrusive thoughts and Its something I’m still working on.
I think the things ‘d love for people to receive from my art is LOVE and that caring for others is not difficult, it is important.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Grabbing a iced coffee at Bloom & Plume Coffee. Take in as much art as possible – my happy place is the LACMA – or really any museum in LA, but that is definitely my favorite. Visit the Griffith Park Observatory. Drive up PCH taking in the views. Grab some dinner at Poncha in Highland Park. Sip some wine at the Colorado Wine Co in Eagle Rock. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my cousins Cameron and Courtney. They have uplifted me the most on my journey and they are my biggest support system and cheer team. I would not be here without them.
