We had the good fortune of connecting with Le’Kieah Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Le’Kieah, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
The biggest important impact I have had on my son was continuing my education when I initially learned I would become a mother. At 23 years old I was in my last year of undergraduate. I worked to fund my education, had a required internship, and enrolled in 19 units. This was a difficult moment in my life, however, that is exactly what it was, a moment. I did not allow this time to determine my future nor let it discourage me.
I knew that I wanted to teach him when he becomes of age ready to apply to colleges of his own, that there is no such thing as “try”. Resiliency and determination are the biggest impacts I have instilled in my son. He has witnessed me recently, apply to graduate school and see the beginning stages of me starting a consulting firm along with an accessory line. I include him in any decisions I decide and allow him to see what it takes to start a business.
Making mistakes, he has witnessed. Cries and frustration, he understands and offers encouragement. Laughs and smiles, he absorbed. After all, these are just some of the emotions I underwent. Teaching my son life is about having a plan, sticking to it, and allow yourself to be malleable. Life will not always go as we “plan” however, he understands at the tender age of 7 that anything can be achieved through determination.
As he looks back on his childhood, he will see a young mother who transferred into a working professional to eventually a business owner CEO.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kuff’d By K. Williams is an accessory line that I started back in November of 2020. I was inspired by the women who always asked where do I get my earrings, necklace, or even bracelets from as a teenager. I started to create earrings initially because a classic hoop was always my thing.
I had no information on how to start a website, traction to my page, or even how to start a brand. Through late nights on the computer, I found myself researching and learning. It was definitely not easy and I am still learning. I learned how important it trademarking is the difference between sole propriety and the licenses that are required to make your business official. I also learned how important social media is about why constant interaction is key. I am constantly learning to keep branding myself and keep the word out about my line and not be afraid of networking.
I want people to know that Kuff’d By K. Williams is an affordable accessory line that anyone can wear. Classy meets sexy is what Kuff’d By K. Williams is about.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go to the Venice Canals in Venice, CA. Then go to a nice beach in Malibu and have drinks on any rooftop in downtown LA. The botanical museums such as The Huntington Library or The Getty Villa are just a few of my favorites and we would definitely check those out! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out my sister, Tierra Williams. Although she is younger than I am, she has inspired me to start looking into becoming a businesswoman. I have always dreamt of it, but seeing her start multiple businesses and having various streams of income, taught me not to be disposable at the expense of others. She is motivated, business savvy and self-taught on that information she has gained through trial and error. Teestouch Cosmetics has become her brand.
