We had the good fortune of connecting with Gerard Cole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gerard, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Yes!! I have two favorite quotes/affirmations. “The universe is always working for me, not against me” & “Just ’cause I feel this way doesn’t mean I have to be this way.”

The first quote I use as reminder that even when things feel really “shitty” the universe is ALWAYS watching out for me. It may not feel like it and I may not see it but the universe isn’t working against me so there has to be something better coming along. I’ll be honest, it doesn’t always come that fast or mean I don’t get upset. That’s where the second quote comes into to play. As a comedian and overall positive person, I have to remind myself it’s okay to be upset too and feel all those “icky” feelings I was conditioned to repress, but, I don’t have to BE those “icky” feelings. There’s a difference between really feeling my emotions and being my emotions. It’s taught me so much and helped me get over things a lot sooner than I did in the past. I’m a dramatic gay what can I say.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I”m a comedian and I host my own podcast called Turning Cole Into Diamonds (my last name is Cole). It’s a funny and inspiring take on how we all have “cole” moments in life, moments that add a little bit of pressure, but it’s how we react and move forward that creates a diamond. I’m a first generation black gay son to a single mom in the United States, I’ve been through some stuff for sure, AND I’ve modeled for Nike as a plus size model, gotten to do stand-up, act, and take shots with people I would have never dreamed of if I had not keep persevering through all of it. You can’t make a diamond without a little bit of pressure and I know that. As a comedian my goal is not only to make people laugh but remind them that “they are that bitch” and they can do anything no matter their skin color, sexual preference, gender identity, or religion. In the words of Cardi B “period.”

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m going to give you the pre pandemic answer. Fresh off the plane we’re getting brunch, I know we’re getting brunch because my friends know I’m not picking you up in LA traffic hours, so it’s off to 12pm mimosas and catching up. After we get some time to digest we are planning our night out dancing in WEHO. The Abbey is a must. Next day we’re recovering with breakfast and a hike. I’m not normally a hike “for fun” type of guy but I like to pretend with my friends in town, give them the LA treatment. Runyon, Griffith, and the Hollywood sign are the go to’s. (I know I’m basic I also love Whiteclaws as well.) At some point Malibu is a must, a nice day or two at the beach never hurt anyone, everything else is either food or shopping but on the last night I always take my friends or family up to Griffith Observatory to watch the sunset and see LA at night in all it’s glory, just so they really know how much where ever they’re going back to, really sucks. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m so glad you asked this question, yes I do. I’m a firm believer in no one is successful by themselves. I’m an only child so I’ve always been a fairly independent person and loved that side of myself. However, a few years ago I came across a company called World Works which has now transitioned into Elevate Leadership Community. They offered these trainings that at the time I thought were “crazy, expensive, and cultish,” however it really changed my life. Simply putting everything, it’s all about shining a light on all the beliefs that are working for you and not working for you and keeping the working and tossing out the not working. From those trainings I have made some big changes in my life and how I live it, which has led to where I’m at today. Not to mention my best friends.
