We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Giron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The life of an artist is all about taking risks. When I decided to become an artist, I took the risk of knowing that my career, might not be successful, and that I was going into a world of chances. I always wanted to draw and create stories as a writer, and as an artist.

I knew I have to keep working hard to continue my career, and taking risks will always teach me to become a better artist, and to keep enjoying the art of learning.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I inherited art from my father, Luis Alejandro Giron. My father used to draw monsters and gore art, as a kid, I was extremely fascinated by my father’s art as a kid. I started drawing more monsters and creatures all my childhood, I even drew small comic books with my best friend Bryan Morales in Middle School.

I went to college to become a film director, since I was extremely busy with school all the time, I didn’t make a drawing for about 4 years.

When the 2020 pandemic began, I lost my job and I felt like the world was ending for me, I began to think on what could I do to bring myself back into the world. I was jobless and no where to go, so I created a art Instagram account, and began drawing again.

It felt so good to pick up a pen again and draw. Every time I draw, I escape this world , and enter the world of the creature, or scenery I am working on.

This lead me to create a character for a novel I am currently writing. The character I created is called “The Devilfish” and it’s a river mermaid. This has been extremely difficult and some times, I still ask myself if I got what it takes. Life is all about taking risks, so I shall continue to create what I enjoy and show the world that, horror art is more than blood and guts.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The two places I love visiting in the great city of Los Angeles, are the BeetlehouseLA, and Bearded Lady Vintage and Oddities store in Burbank. I enjoy discovering gothic and vintage places around the city, and both of these places are just amazing.

The Beetlehouse is a Tim Burton themed bar and restaurant, while the Bearded Lady, is a wonderful spooky store filled wirh oddities and gothic merch.

You’ll find me in Burbank a lot as there are so many fun vintage stores all around the area. I’m all about discovering new places, and show them to new people, or my friends. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A person I admire a lot is Layna Bedo, also known as Maplemothpaints on Instagram. Layna is a great artist and has been a mentor for me since I met her in 2020. Her successful business making, and selling her art, is a huge inspiration for me.

Even if I’m still a small artist from Los Angeles, Layna has been there to support my work since I only had 5 followers on Instagram.

Her work and humble attitude are just some of the things I admire about this wonderful artist, and why she’s been a mentor for me all this time.
