We had the good fortune of connecting with Sade Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sade, how do you think about risk?
When i think about risk, I think about sacrifice, and major faith. I know to society entrepreneurship looks super glamorous and super easy, but there are plenty of risks being taken when you are following that path. I always say “Entrepreneurship is a faith walk,” because it truly is. I personally am a Christian, so when I say faith, I am referring to my relationship with God.

I’ve taken a few risk in both my life and career. After graduating college I moved to New York, not knowing anyone, not with a job lined up, solely with the goal to network. I sacrificed my braid clients in that moment, it was a huge risks because I could have lost their clientele. When I moved back, I did in fact have to rebuild my clientele, which took me a good 2 years to feel comfortable for my following risk. While working as a behavioral therapist for those 2 years, I decided September 2018 to put in my 2-weeks notice and be a full time entrepreneur.

Just 2 days after my last day working there I was hired as an Independent Contractor / Freelance Publicist at The Purple Agency. In that moment I knew God had my back and that taking the risk to “bet on myself” was well worth it. So every since then I have been able to juggle being a celebrity publicist and a braider.

Just a year and a half later, August 2020 (during a pandemic), I made another risk. I signed the lease to my very own braid salon, “Sade Styles: Beauty Supply & Braid Lounge” in Gardena, Ca. So as you can see risk taking has been the most defining part of my journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Honestly, I am where I am today business-wise because of my faith and my work-ethic. I love the “hustle,” I am a go-getter and I feed off of that energy. It’s exciting to me to be in the service business, and honestly, my clients and my relationships have been super prevelant in my success. It hasn’t always been easy during my journey, I’ve endured tragedy in my life that spilled over to my career life causing me to have certain fears and insecurities as a business women, I’ve loss friendships and relationships, loss money, clients, so much, but I have overcame those things by simply just working on myself by therapy, writing, and taking self-care more important. I always say who you are in your personal life will eventually spill over to your career life, especially as an entrepreneur.

Lessons I’ve learned along the way have been to again work on yourself personally, take situations for what they are and not get sucked in by the potential of things look at things at face value when it comes to your business (and even personal) because you have to protect your legacy and your energy. I have also learned that when you decide to do business with someone always remember your foundation with that individual, make sure you guys have a solid foundation because that will most likely determine how that business relationship will go in the long run.

I want the world to know that I am authentic, I am who I say I am. I support those around me and I want to see everyone win. My brand is all about organic energy and peace, pushing everyone that supports me to be their best selves, and embrace who they truly are.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love a good beach vibe, so I would take my best friend to Hermosa Beach, they have a few bars, restaurants and nice shops. I also love the spa, before the pandemic every month I would go to Hugh Spa in Koreatown, so I would take her there as well, and for dinner/drinks the downtown area has a few nice bars and depending on the weekend a great club would be a nice way to end the day. The following day a great brunch would be perfect, who doesn’t love bottomless mimosas. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My journey has been supported by so many amazing people. I first owe so much to my mother who has literally supported every single idea I have ever had. My mom always encouraged me to be myself and go for what I want with integrity. My friends have also been a great support system, they encourage me, show-up to my events, helped me, and so much more. My good friend Justin Pride has also been such a great support system and teammate in my journey, we bounce so many ideas off of each other, and actually execute, a true accountability partner. I can also credit Echo Hattix (Echoing Soundz), Amber Mike (Freelance TV Producer), and Phylicia Fant (Head of Urban Music at Columbia Records), for also being strong black women in my life that opened the door for me, and that is super big in our community.
