Meet Conor Biddle | Writer & Pink House Clothing Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Conor Biddle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Conor, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been someone who loves to have multiple projects going.
While I was getting frustrated with how out-of-my-hands making it as a TV writer was I became attracted to this idea of starting my own business, after all, it would be entirely in my control. That was the catalyst for starting Pink House Clothing.
That’s not to say I hadn’t kicked around the idea of starting a business before because I certainly had. There’s something so exciting about owning an entity that you get to develop every aspect of. I’ve learned an unbelievable amount in my first year from managing people to branding to UX to marketing to finance. Starting your own company really kicks you in the butt to become extremely well-rounded.
I have been entrepreneurial my whole life from working with my best friends to push our high school to let us put on our original plays to selling dance videos to MLB teams to trying to sell TV shows (being a TV writer is very entrepreneurial), so I had a solid grasp on what it meant to put yourself out there. But the key difference between all of those endeavors and Pink House is that I’m on the hook for money to come in for Pink House whereas the others, I wasn’t.
Seeing my Pink House credit card balance go up as I spend money on marketing, contractors, goods, etc. is… pretty stressful! But seeing my customers’ photos wearing our stuff is well worth the stress.
The biggest epiphany that I had about any endeavor you embark on is: Shoot for progress on a yearly basis, not any sooner. If you approach your business with the understanding that things will not go according to plan and it could take a year to do what you thought you could in one month, you will be a happier business owner. If you expect to see 3X growth in three months and you see no growth… you’re going to be crushed. Approach your business with reasonable expectations.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Pink House Clothing is a result of a multitude of life experiences. From growing up in a literal pink house to dancing at Citizens Bank Park (Phillies Stadium) to being a comedy television writer to being a Creative Director for a startup, Pink House embodies everything I stand for and have learned along the path to where I am now.
Pink House artwork is always designed to make people smile, feel confident, and tell a story. From simple stories about loving french fries to more emotional ones paying tribute to my late uncle (an upcoming collection), Pink House strives to combine meaning with quirky designs.
As a business owner still in my first year of operation, it’s all one giant challenge of spreading brand awareness. It’s been an eye-opening experience to learn which marketing strategies work and which don’t. The biggest thing I’ve learned is that marketing strategies rarely work as planned, and you need to be ready to be consistent with spreading brand awareness over the course of a long period of time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Restaurants:
Locations:
Zuma Beach in Malibu (gorgeous views and gorgeous ocean)
Temescal Canyon Trailhead (moderately difficult hike with breathtaking ocean views)
Griffith Observatory (beautiful views on the exterior with cool exhibits inside)
Runyon Canyon (a classic LA hike)
Santa Monica Pier (an always-bustling locale but you have to go at least once)
Crossroads Trading Co. (a fun thrift store where you’ll definitely find some awesome new pieces)
My nightlife game is not as on point but I love No Vacancy in Hollywood. The secret way you enter the club is enough reason to go!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Honestly, I want to give a major shoutout to my girlfriend, Brittany Shear. Being partners with an entrepreneurial person (me) isn’t always easy. I remember coming home one day and telling her I wanted to start a charity… this was after I was already doing multiple projects on top of a full-time job. It was an insane idea especially because I had no knowledge about starting a charity. She kindly said she wasn’t sure I could make time to do that and I quickly realized she was right. Being an entrepreneurial person, I can easily get excited about new and shiny projects, but it’s her that keeps me grounded.
Brittany is an unbelievably calming and steady presence in my life. She’s always there with her arms out to catch me if I fall and embrace me if I fly. Without her, I would never have started Pink House Clothing – I would’ve been too scared.
With her in my corner, I know I can do anything I set my mind to. Brittany deserves so much credit.
