We had the good fortune of connecting with karin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi karin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was a creative child and I always loved to make things!! I painted, beaded, did macrame, made candles etc. At some point, I realized in order to keep making things, I would need to sell some things! LOL!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The bottom line is I love personal style and I am obsessed with creating something new. There is something so extremely satisfying about making something that was not there before. I think I bring a very creative edge to my design approach. I started my company with zero capital, so I had to rely entirely on my creativity. I love to try new things and new combinations. I am always exploring, and always looking for inspiration. I got to where I am today by giving my passion a lot (years & years) of energy. Sometimes I think I work too hard, but it is doing what I love so it makes it okay. I never took any formal lessons, anything is possibly if you apply yourself. These days with You Tube you can teach yourself anything that you want to learn.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had visitors, I would try to make them a home made meal and we would sit at our little pond, or as we call it turtle cafe. We have lots of turtles and it is very beautiful. Then I would take them hiking with my dogs in the surrounding mountains. There are so many great places to hike–Los Angeles Crest, Verdugo Mountains, Griffith Park etc. Then I would take them for a drive down the coast. Those are my favorite things to do.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Mom definitely deserves this shout out!!! She encouraged & inspired me. When I was young, she had a natural cosmetic company that she ran out of our kitchen. This was long before natural products were a thing. There were cucumbers everywhere! She was very ahead of her time. Later, she also had her own small handbag company that made very high end canvas and leather bags. She always told me I could do whatever I wanted to do!
