Meet Art Dixie: Professional Music Curator / Producer / Songwriter / Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Art Dixie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Art, what do you want people to remember about you?
I would love to have a legacy that leaves an indelible mark on how the music industry evolves and operates. With the HTI Music Collaborative we are bringing in the best and the brightest talent that we can vet in hopes of incubating a very diverse and highly curated group of music professionals that will be making great songs/sounds for years to come. These wonderfully talented folks will foster a fraternity of brotherhood/sisterhood that will last a lifetime once they are “in” the HTI camp. I’d like to see HTI Music Collaboratives all over the world coming together and continuing to teach, mentor, and collaborate with each other long after myself and our founding partners have passed on.
I’d like folks to remember the good music that I have made with some amazing folks. I’d like them to forgive my knuckleheaded mistakes and know that I have grown from them and also recognize that I have fallen on my face a few times only to dust my shoulders off and keep it moving forward…I want them to say “Art Dixie rode the ride til the wheels flew off!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m extremely grateful to have a talent that I can use to express myself and make a living. I worked hard to learn an instrument but I think that the gift of making music that a lot of people love comes from another sort of magical place…I just know that a lot of of folks wish that they could sing or play an instrument just as much as I wish that I could write genius code! haha
I am excited about the road ahead of me because the effort that it takes to get an idea off of the ground is long and arduous and full of valleys and moments of self doubt. I got to where I am today by connecting with the right folks and never giving up. It really is about the journey even more than the destination.
I’d like people to know that the HTI Music Collaborative idea grew from the many mistakes that I have made and from the unfair treatment that I received in the past as far as credit and money splits with certain artists and labels which shall remain anonymous for this article. At HTI…EVERYONE from engineers to violin players to support staff that is involved with our projects gets a piece of the profits and a share in the glory.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well it is hard for me to list everyone who has been a part of my musical journey but I suppose it starts with my parents buying a piano and THEN saying somebody is going to play this thing! lol They put me in piano lessons and I played in the church and that’s really where it all started.
I also had management early on that helped me secure my 1st professional gig besides church with the contemporary Christian group Anointed which led to my job as lead producer/songwriter for NBA star and stellar jazz musician Wayman Tisdale (RIP). I met a LOT of folks during my time with him.
My brother Derek just reminds me to stay humble and keep striving for greatness. He is truly inspiring.
My partner in crime with The Get Up Team podcast with Art & Connie…Connie (filmmaker, executive, artist)…she helps me become a better person by the second.
Finally my best friend and founding partner Eric has been a constant support and pillar of strength over the years…I would never be able to pull anything off without his support and belief in me.
