We had the good fortune of connecting with holmes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi holmes, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
yes, definitely! when I was at a music conference years ago, one of the speakers said something like “if you can do anything besides music, do that, because this path is incredibly difficult and you really need to love it and you really need to believe in your gift to keep going after every “no” you get.” I think about that allll the time. every time I question myself and my path, I think about anything else I would want to be doing, and there’s nothing, so i would say if you love it with all your heart and can’t see yourself doing anything else, keep going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I sing and write fun moody pop music and have an amazing band that I practice and play shows with often. During covid, i got a burst of inspiration and wrote the most songs I’ve ever written that I’m really really excited about releasing! I also love fashion (especially from the 60’s 70’s and 90’s) and love thrifting and styling outfits for myself and my friends, and would love to get into that professionally. 🙂
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
on the weekend, definitely head to the Los Feliz flea market on saturday and pick up the best candy in the world from Mijitos Chilitos! on sunday, you gotta get a real NY bagel from Maury’s and then hike griffith park up to the black top.
the rest of the week, check out all of my favourite vegan restaurants! little barn coffee house, crossroads, gracias madre, and silver lake house. play tennis during the day and then head to trivia on monday at the federal, and go for drinks after at ye rustic inn. Fred 62’s is a must also, but only at 12am. moonlight rollerway is super fun, and it’s always a blast seeing the dodgers play!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
my family, my friends, my dog elroy, my roommates and neighbors, erik madsen, anyone who comes to my shows or listens to my songs, and taylor swift for her inspiration
