We had the good fortune of connecting with Sean Dillingham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sean, what do you attribute your success to?
Hustle! That no one, NO ONE, is going to make you, but YOU. Agents, managers, etc those are great people to know and have, but ultimately YOU have to make it. A great piece of advice is, whatever you get on your own is the meat and potatoes of your career, whatever the agent gets, thats just the gravy! So don’t sit around and depend on that. You hustle up work, you get jobs, YOU move your career. Be like Nike and, JUST DO IT!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I really feel I have learned to become a strong actor. I have done over 100 commercials, 60 films, 20 national tv series, and I just NOW, believe I am starting to “get it”. It’s very exciting to be in a scene now, mature, not rushing it, trusting the writing, the directing, etc. Knowing the action of the other actors, seeing the scene from the cameras perspective. I am very excited to see my personal growth as an actor. When you first start acting, you really run on nerves, energy and excitement. I’ve learned so much and now can really build a scene, a moment. I am excited for the future. I really feel I am growing as an artist.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Hollywood. Show them every film studio. Universal, Warner Brothers, Paramount. Show them behind the scenes and how the magic happens and how many people it really takes to put a movie together. Then it would be Venice beach to show them the eclectic life that Venice represents. That’s America. A melting pot of people. Lastly, stroll Santa Monica pier, grab a meal at Bubba Gumps and take in a beautiful California sunset.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife! She is my rock. You have to have balance in your life. She is the center of my family’s universe, without her we would all be lost. She supports, encourages, builds me up, travels with me, helps with all the arrangements, etc. She is the last one to say as I am walking out the door, “break a leg!” and the first one to ask, “how did it go?” Unconditional support – I love you Tawni.
