We had the good fortune of connecting with Roy Kariok and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Roy, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
Easley, Leaving Israel.
Deciding that I am going to a different country without really knowing the language too much and just go for it..
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My answer to everyone who say ” oh you have talent / it’s easy for you ” and all that has been always the same – Im just VERY GOOD in working hard.
Being a guitar player is more then my career, it’s kind of my identity, I’ve never had a “real job” other than playing guitar, so when I decided that I am more than a guitar player and want to double in other things it was a big life change for me, building Paramusical.com while touring with some of the biggest artists of the world was an adventure….learning how ro deal with different types of people, not artistic but very business and particle type kind of kicked my ass till I learned that I have it inside of me as well.
I love to try and inspire others to step out of their comfort … since thats where we grow.
if its in your work / career or in personal life.
One of my biggest passions and a HUGE part of my life is Running and cycling, I was an over weight kid ( moving to the US in 2002 I was 315Pounds, lost more then half of my body weight with sports and nutrition alone) from running marathons in different places around the world and cycling all around the Santa Monica mountains and around socal, this is where I think, get ideas, process things.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
everything by the beach.
growing up in Tel Aviv Israel right by the Mediterranean I get my peace and power from the beach.
So if it’s hiking Malibu watching the ocean from above, running / cycling by the boardwalk or having a drink in shutters by the beach in Santa Monica, for me, as long as I can see the ocean, Im good.
we are very lucky to live in a place where we have any type of scenery an hour away, you want beach ? mountains ? snow ? we got it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My friends / Family, Everything is I do is fueled by their support.
I have been blessed to have some of the smartest people around me and when in doubt, I always find the right person to ask / discuss the next step.
It’s been said that the five people closest to you shape your success, your interests and much more about you…
I love to spend time with everyone and generally a people person but very aware of who I bring in close to me.
In terms of a book, In the last couple of years, I keep finding myself jumping back into Tim Ferriss books “Tools of Titans ” & “Tribe of Mentors” I love it that I can just open the book in random places in the middle and find gold inspiring information.
