We had the good fortune of connecting with Eyeris Balam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eyeris, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued an artistic career because I have passion for sewing. As a child, I used to sew clothes for my Barbie dolls.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What separates me from others is my abundance of fabric selection and the fact that I create every item from beginning to end. I’m very proud about how I was able to contribute and donate dozens of my 2019 mask collection during the 2020 pandemic to front line and others in need. It hasn’t been easy getting to my current profession state. I had to invest many hours participating in community events so I may expose myself to customers who do not shop online. Along the way I have learned I should open myself more when people reach out to interview my product and/or myself. I would like the world to know that every item I create is with passion and love.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend of mine were to visit from out of town, I would first start with Breakfast at the “Guatemalteca”, a Guatemalan restaurant located in South East Hollywood. After breakfast we’ll head over to Griffith Park and step inside the Observatory and take a view of the Los Angeles Basin. Then we’ll drive down for a snack to the Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights for some conchas and live mariachi. After, we’ll drive over to Echo Park and have lunch while strolling on the paddle boat swans. As we watch the sun set, we’ll make our way to one of my favorite breweries in the district of downtown Los Angeles, “Angel City Brewery”. Here we’ll drink and play the night away, till the next day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to my one and only partner in crime and my biggest supporter, my husband (Ash Santamaria).
