We had the good fortune of connecting with Nesha Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nesha, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?

The process of starting Eumerika U-merika was for the everyday woman, “Interchangeable woman”.  “Interchangeable woman.” As I am a really busy woman and wear many hats which in return are all different. I was noticing that my day-to-days were causing me to change my attire to fit different settings. From there I thought how many other women were facing the same. So that is where the clothing being multi-functional was birthed.

We combine multiple styles in one garment to achieve comfort, illusion and custom fit to your unique body shape. And when we are not designing our own collection pieces we are taking on other designers that still fit the mode of our business to give the quality our customers desire.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Busy! Well, let’s start out with the fact that as a company we started out doing custom swimwear and boy of boy (boy, oh, boy) was it not easy. Baby listen here, when you are sourcing manufactures, they will make it seem like they can accommodate you and then the ball is dropped somewhere. This is one aspect of the business that keeps us busy as a company because we are always making sure we have a back-up location to use. It is getting easier for us now.

Another busy aspect that keeps us busy in the swimwear department is creating for in between sizes and trying to enhance the body in areas that many women desire to be flattering. The woman’s body is a beautiful body of artwork that come’s in different shapes and sizes. Therefore, we wanted to accommodate in the aspect of giving custom orders into affordable pieces while providing sizes from S/M  to L/XL. We noticed our clients weren’t always a small and not quite a medium so the S/M was a perfect fit. And we continued up the size chart from there to accommodate. We thought long and hard on all of the concerns a woman would have measuring from trying to cover stretch marks, elongate the legs, enhance or cover up the stomach while providing a range of very sexy to a more conservate look.

I’ve learned that you can’t give up no matter what, life and society is always evolving and eventually you will find that perfect product that will hit and make the difference. Also, brace yourself for the manufacturing issues, they will happen. You have to deal with it and keep your business hat on. The downfalls and let down is what makes you strong and power through as a business woman.

And as a small business you have to be prepared for companies not respecting what you do but just know you are fighting to make your mark in the industry just like everyone else. I always remind myself that there is a woman looking for an item to purchase and if we carry it then we can make her happy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

So, we are beach and roof top gals. So, we are going to the beach and sitting outside on the beach front having some refreshing salads with some seafood and a crisp fresh martini or a glass of wine/champagne.

Then a hookah spot to relax and just have some much-needed girl talk met with laughs and smiles while looking fierce from head to toe.

The other days are mixed with shoppings, some home cooked meals because we love to cook, and we all know the tea comes out in the kitchen over food and drinks.

And as always, we have to do our spiritual meditation, release and prayer time. So, its automatic that we find a spiritual store and take a visit.

When you are a spiritual – business woman you have to always recharge, stay in spiritual position, have fun and create memories for a lifetime. And of course! Plan the dates for the next trip!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, God because he planted the seed inside of me to even allow the vision to come alive. My dope partner which is the Head of Design Tina Christianson who is an amazing designer. She really pays attention to the details that I do. The Academy of Art University who taught us so much and allowed us to work with some of the best in the fashion world. And lastly those who support us, buy from us, share and re-share our work and not to mention New York Fashion Week which really opened avenues for us.
