We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa “Liser” Schrofner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa “Liser”, why did you pursue a creative career?
I already knew in Kindergarten that one day I want to be an artist, but the circumstances were not given. When I started posting my drawings and paintings on my social media accounts in 2018 though, I received such great feedback and even requests for prints that I thought: „Why not?“. I took a risk and thanks to the people who appreciate my work and have been following my process since the very beginning, it worked out! Being able to generate income with something I enjoy doing so much and making people feel some type of way with my art is a blessing. And I will be forever grateful for that.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is me! I draw, paint, sew, build, … everything I create contains a part of me. While I am proud of my personal works, I am most excited about collaborations with other artists. I enjoy hearing about people‘s ideas and then visualize them. Give them imagery to their words.

I do not have a formal education in the arts, I never relied on institutions or other typical networks, which means I had to build my own simply by being myself and putting myself out there. While I do acknowledge the downsides that social media can bring, I have to say that I would not be where I am today without the people I „met“ online!

But building a network was not the only challenge, also trusting the process and believing in myself has been a rollercoaster. But again, I have to thank every single person sending me kind words of encouragement.

I think the biggest lesson I have learned is that whenever I doubt myself, that this energy attracts nothing but despair. But when I consciously believe in myself and my craft, the most amazing opportunities pop up. It is like a little game and positive affirmations are like cheat codes that bring additional wonders to your life.

My story is mostly about being real and open with struggles, insecurities, little victories and all the things I show in my work that many people can relate to. And that is the magic of art to me: feeling less alone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My top three spots:

– Venice Beach

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big shoutout to Jessie Couzelis who basically gave me that final push just by being herself and sharing her story. Another massive shoutout to iRAWniQ who is one of the most magical people I have the honor of knowing and working with. They have been supportive and encouraging from the beginning on and continue to give me the recognition I need. And of course my friends that have always seen something in me even when I sometimes didn‘t.
