We had the good fortune of connecting with Charli Michelé and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charli, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I decided to pursue dancing because it honestly makes me feel good! I live for inspiring others and making them feel confident in the dance community. Being apart of the plus size community there has been many challenges however every time I get over an obstacle it provides me with an opportunity to help guide and coach someone else through my exact process! I love music and movement it puts a smile on my face and is a great way to express myself!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Even though I am also a dancer I am mostly a dance teacher and coach! I love teaching even more than me taking a dance class myself. Being able to shape the minds and bodies of the future is truly an honor. I have been coaching my own Hip Hop Team at Calabasas High school for the last 5 years now and I have been able to witness the tremendous growth! Going from 12 people on my team to now coach 20 has been insane! Obviously in a good way 🙂 The students I coach are always so eager to learn more and become the best dancer they can possibly be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite places to go is the beach! If it were up to me I would be laying out at the beach everyday! soaking up the sun, tanning, warm sand…ugh the best in the world! My favorite beach is Escondido Beach which is a small private beach near Malibu. One of my top favorite places to eat is Blaqhaus in North Hollywood. Their food *chefs kiss* is absolutely phenomenal! 10/10 recommend! They have amazing vegan options as well and their brunch has a long menu of must-haves!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my parents! MY mother has definitely shaped the person I am today and has a huge role in me continuing to purse the entertainment industry especially dance. Her being a teacher growing up helped her guide me to become the teacher I am today. My father has also played an important role as well in backing and supporting what I do! Growing up he never missed one of my performances and always took the opportunity to show up and show out when I hit the stage!
