We had the good fortune of connecting with Raymone Walton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Raymone, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Since a child, I could remember being surrounded by the sound of live instrumentation, singing, & dancing. I myself didn’t know that I would grow up to be an artist but every time I would hear the sound of the drums snare, the deep vibration in a bass guitar, the screams of a lead guitar and my cousin or uncle singing on a microphone hooked up to an amplifier to complete the process caught my attention every time. I’ve always had some type of artistic ability inside of me but didn’t quite know how to pinpoint what it was. I’m good at painting, drawing, putting things together with my hands but music is what I see myself doing to infinity and beyond. By the time I was in my teen years I had gotten good at forming words with instrumental beats but I couldn’t quite keep it going the entire beat. But as I got older I learned more about people that write songs for artist behind the scenes. I learned to take my time writing real songs instead of just verses. The more I practiced the better I got and the more people wanted to hear me. I was always told that I had a message in my music and that my sound was different than anything that they’d ever heard. It feels great to be an oddball and trendsetter in music because I don’t aim to sound like a artist that’s already out. But instead I would imagine how an artist would sound featured on a song with me and I create words in my head with their voices saying my lyrics and the song comes out amazing most of the times. Now that I’m in my early 30’s I’ve developed a sound and style of my own and now starting to release my music to the world. I feel like I’m a seasoned rookie but an OG veteran at the same time. I’m Ray Jream and I just released my first single “All I’m Saying” on all music platforms. I’m looking for to helping people get through their problems or get some type of healing just from listening. As long as I can help 1 person with my music then that’s enough to keep me going. Again I am (Ray) light (Jream) dreamers keep dreaming.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well what I think makes me stand out as an artist or person in general is I always do it for others. No matter if it’s putting a smile on a face, helping out a person through something, or just guidance and knowledge. If I can help out one person a day with just being myself then I feel accomplished. Also I’ve learned over time that to actually get somewhere in life you have to speak it into existence, believe what you’re speaking, then you actually have to get up and work for it. It’s all faith over fear for me. And last but not least be consistent and work on your craft at least once a day. I want the world to know that my brand is about being your original self. I mean who else can be a greater you than you.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve lived in Chicago my entire life and I still haven’t done all that there is to do here. But I definitely love to get out and enjoy the scenery, thrills, & eats that the city has to offer. I’m Vegan but I can take you to a restaurant called “Can’t Believe It’s Not Meat” located in Hyde Park and you’d be amazed at the taste of their plant based food seasoned to perfection. My favorite is the Vegan Philly! Then we can grab some gelato ice cream and cruise down lake shore drive towards downtown Chicago. Lake Shore Drive is like the main vein of the city and it divides the city from the lake. I also love visiting the aquarium or the museums along the lake. We’d have to end the night with the worlds best pizza Giordanos and walk the River Walk where you could enjoy the breeze surrounded with good energy and maybe even an adult beverage. That’s how I’d take my best friend out in my city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
