We had the good fortune of connecting with Mynesha Spencer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mynesha, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
“Find work that you enjoy doing. It will never feel like work and it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t pay well”.
No; definitely find some work that pays you well and know that your passion does not have to be your profit. Of course, it’s amazing if it works out that way.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I grew up studying the 50s-60s civil rights movement. During this process I became passionate about law, civil rights and social justice. I studied Administration of Justice and later went on to study Law. Thus, at 26 I founded my own human relations firm dedicated to advancing human relations via administering bias training, cultural awareness training, and diversity workshops in order to heighten consciousness and eliminate bias. Because while laws and policies change, people’s hearts and minds may not. Our work aims to transforms hearts and minds.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would go hiking without a doubt! I’d find the best hiking trail and head to that area immediately before sunrise to set up a hiking day trip.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
God first of course. Ronda Harvey-Shaheen immediately thereafter… as a child, she always encouraged me to dream big and reach for the stars. In every card (I likely averaged 5 a year from her), she would remind me to never stop shining brightly! Lastly, my 11 year old daughter, Am’Agyn, who is graceful, pleasant and so intellectual. I want to be just like her when I grow up.
