Meet Amy Hruby | Life & Executive Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Hruby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important business lesson I have learned so far is to do things afraid. In my first year as a Life/Business Coach, there were many things I didn’t know how to do. I knew in order to grow my coaching business quickly I was going to have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. For example, I was invited by a coaching/leadership training company to co-facilitate a leadership workshop in another state and I have never done that before. I was terrified. I thought, what if I mess up and they think I’m a terrible coach and facilitator? They won’t continue to work with me and then what will I do? I knew if I let any self-doubt get in the way, I would stay small and not build relationships with people. I was determined not to let my inner critic get in the way of me succeeding. I was willing to feel uncertain and messy in support of exposing myself to new people and experiences. I ended up co-facilitating that workshop and it went great! I’ve been working with that company as an Executive Coach now for over five years. I’ve coached people at Facebook, Fox Sports, Freddie Mac, Penn Mutual, Collins Aerospace, just to name a few and it has been so rewarding.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m a Life and Business Coach. Ever since I was a little girl, I remember always wanting to know what made people tick and what Life was all about. I wanted to know the answers to: Why am I here? What’s my purpose?
In order to answer those questions (Why am I here? What’s my purpose?) for myself, I’ve pursued a life of learning and discovery. I’m a seeker. I’ve done a lot of therapy, attended many personal growth workshops, did 12 step work for food addiction, got a Master’s Degree in Spiritual Psychology, read numerous self-help books, and hired professional coaches along the way.
Through my educational, spiritual pursuit, I’ve embraced what it means to be a soul having a human experience. I’m a champion of the human spirit—the beauty, the adventure, the complexity, the messiness of it all.
In my work, I partner with my clients in their own self-discovery, to support them in answering those bigger questions for themselves. I help them in getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, stepping into greater levels of leadership (personally & professionally), and doing the inner work to shift mindsets in order to have a different outward experience.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First, I would take my friends down to Venice, to walk the Venice Canals, see all the beautiful homes, walk across the bridges and observe the wildlife. Then we would head down to Venice Beach to people watch and go to the skate park to watch the skateboarders and roller skaters. Then we would head up to the coast to the Santa Monica Pier to ride the carousel, get churros, ride the Ferris wheel or roller coaster, take a picture of the Santa Monica Mountains as the sun is setting. I love Mexican food and support more of the family-owned restaurants. I live in Mar Vista and love the Quiadaiyn Restaurant on Venice Blvd., They serve the best Oaxaca food in West LA. Their moles are to die for. We also really enjoy Senor G’s Mexican food which is in Playa del Rey at the end of Culver Blvd. It’s a walk-up restaurant and they serve the best codfish tacos I’ve ever had.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to do a shoutout to several people. First of all to my husband, John Hruby. John and I have been married for over 24 years and he is my biggest supporter. I’m inspired by his love, creativity, passion, and commitment to service. He is an amazing Creativity/Life Coach too and an amazing father to our two children, Connor & Cayden. Another shoutout goes to my sister, Donna Otmani. She’s one of my best friends and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her listening ear, patience and love. My dear friend, Carolyn Freyer-Jones has been one of my biggest mentors in the coaching field in addition to being one of my oldest friends here In Los Angeles. Carolyn was the person who encouraged me to get my coaching certification through the University of Santa Monica in 2016 and has helped me grow my business by teaching me the art of client acquisition through service. All the amazing coaches I have hired over the years: Carrie Doubts, Stephen McGhee, Steve Chandler, and Amber Krzys. Also, finally to Drs. Ron & Mary Hulnick, Teachers/Directors of the University of Santa Monica’s program in Spiritual Psychology. The Spiritual Psychology curriculum I learned at USM are at the core of my coaching and for them, I will be forever grateful.
