We had the good fortune of connecting with The Kinswomen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kinswomen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We started Kinswomen as a podcast in 2019 in order to have conversations about bridging the gaps between people of color and white people. Hannah approached Yseult after we both attended an event about race, and that’s how we met. We expanded Kinswomen as a consulting business and started hosting courses when so many people reached out about racial issues they were dealing within their environments and companies. There was a gap that needed to be closed: a more interpersonal approach to a subject as heavy as racism.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Kinswomen takes a compassionate and loving approach to hard topics surrounding race while being genuine and authentic, and calling for accountability. We focus on building trust between people of color and white people. We’re so proud of the impact we’ve been making on the students that we’ve had in our space. We continuously work on overcoming the challenges of navigating an interracial business dynamic, and all of the resistance that comes from people in our space when it comes to racism and between each other. We are trying to make an impact in a unique way because it’s important that change happens. This work needs to be rooted in the humanity of the world and communities that we live in.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yseult would like to shoutout to her grandmother for making her feel loved and cherished. It planted a seed that would later, with a little work, make her feel like anything is possible. Hannah would like to shoutout Yseult for being a patient, understanding, and hilarious friend and business partner.
