We had the good fortune of connecting with RC Caylan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RC, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is to never give up on your goal and keep continuing on what you love to do. Always trust the process. At the end of the day you’re going to love what you created.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since I was nine years old, my mom and grandma were both seamstresses back in the Philippines. I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by scissors and sewing machines. After seeing that inspiration, I had the passion for fashion designing. Starting was not as easy as it sounds. At first I was a cosmetologist on a cruise. I did hair and makeup, etc. Then that’s were I met my husband. After that I came to the United States, so I can pursue my dream as a fashion designer. I graduated at Grand Rapids Community College with a Fashion and Interior design degree. Then I was a fashion intern in Los Angeles. During the last part of my internship, I got to participate in my first show; which was called “Ruby”. Ever since then, though-out the years I participated in many international fashion week runway shows and dressed over a hundred celebrities. When the pandemic hit, things got a little more challenging because people weren’t going out for events anymore. I was worried that my business was going to collapse because of the revenue sales declining. Yet, the pandemic was a good challenge because it made me stronger as a designer and convinced me to keep going. Never stopping and keep moving forward. That was my lesson throughout the whole process and challenges. Which is to never give up on your dream; and that’s what I want the world to know about my brand.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to bring a friend around the city of Grand Rapids, the main spots would be the Margaux at JW Marriott, Ruth Chris’s Steak House, Rosa Park Circle, and Downtown Market. There’s always great places to eat here and if we were to go get some drinks; there are so many options to choose from. Even outside the city is nice as well; such as Grand Haven beach to Lake Michigan or Tulip Time in Holland, MI. Grand Rapids might be a small city but there’s so many interesting people and I love how there’s so many different cultures.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shoutout to those that have supported me throughout the years. Also, I really to thank my mom and grandma for inspiring me to become the fashion designer that I am today.
