We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Jay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Asia, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I’ve done as a mother and entrepreneur is include my children in the process of managing my business. My children are significantly interested in business ownership through play. They will create stores with their toys and sell it to each other or my husband and I. They are taught key principles that they can use as tools later as they grow older.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My true profession comes from within, I realized after working two retail jobs that I wanted to create clothes myself and from there my vision came to life, I started working on sewing my daughter leotards for her gymnastics classes when she was two, I posted my work on Instagram and it was up from there. I was selling left and right. I would wake up in morning to many orders I had no choice but to get help from a manufacturer. From there I realized I was really good at online graphics, marketing, and branding. I then wanted to get into creating for adults and I was super inspired by Kylie Jenner and her cosmetic line I wanted to see where that would go, I created 23roses cosmetics and it may have failed but I learned to much from that business alone. Next, the pandemic hit and I chose to go to beauty school, I completed my manicurist courses and next is my licensing. I’ve also was inspired to create my own store brand Asia Nail Fairy nail acrylic line. To this day it is still going and thriving. My family owns the press play kids company which we rent out play party equipment on the weekend. My husband helps out with this business due to the lifting and dropping off equipment. I also blog, influence and get brand deals and now my daughter is signed as a model and actress to Aqua talent Los Angeles. I’m proud of myself for not giving up and to let my talents shine even when times get hard and I do not want to do anything. I want the world to know that moms and dads can live out their dreams even with children. The key is to never give it and be patience. Entrepreneurship is not easy you can go from making 100k to 1000. I believe mentor ship is extremely important I think learning from my peers how to navigate my way through entrepreneurship makes business easier.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places in la would be in Mel Rose. I would definitely recommend the restaurants shopping and the entire area vibe. I would also recommend Encino or Topanga for a little retail therapy and cute little restaurants.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am extremely grateful to encounter the effort love and support from my husband. He deserves so much credit for supporting my dreams and having my back through it all. He encourages me to keep going no matter what. Through trail and error ups and downs he has been my solid rock. He is an extremely hard worker and takes care of his family by any means. It means the world to our family. My husband is a true gem.
