We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Baker Marionette Theater and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bob Baker Marionette Theater, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Bob Baker Marionette Theater is unlike any other place in the world. It’s a place in which kindness is always the underlying ingredient and imagination dwells.

With the onset of the pandemic, Bob Baker’s ability to instill joy in the world was established in new ways. With audiences quarantined, efforts were made to quickly revamp a more than 60 year old company and create access points to happiness at home. Puppet performances were debuted weekly and funds were raised to create a traveling “Marionette Mobile

The impact of Bob Baker is felt with every piece of fan art that comes in the mail, with every smile that appears after a Zoom puppet show, and whenever a child is inspired to make a puppet of their very own.

What should our readers know about your business?
As a company dating back to 1963, BBMT draws upon decades of puppetry — and Los Angeles — history. Through the challenges of COVID, the Theater has been able to initiate pandemic pivots that allow for puppetry experiences to reach audiences safely.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In 2019, BBMT moved to 4949 York Boulevard in LA’s Highland Park neighborhood and have loved the process of building community and collaborating with our new neighbors.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The team at Bob Baker Marionette Theater are a tremendous inspiration. The collective dedication of the BBMT community is the reason why the Theater has been able to survive – and to thrive – over the past several years.
