We had the good fortune of connecting with MEGG and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MEGG, what do you want your legacy to be?
Oof, that’s a big one…I think I want my legacy to be that I never give up and that I am 100%, unapologetically me. That despite ALL the bullshit and hardship, I always pick myself up and come back swinging. That despite being told I’m “too much” my entire life or the hilarious fact that I was banned from sleepovers as a child for being “too loud”, I continue to embrace the volume I was blessed with in my music and I never let that shit stop me from being my true loud and proud, rowdy, extra ass self! I’ve been through a lot, losing my Dad being the worst of it, and life has definitely thrown curveballs my way but ultimately, I think it has shaped who I am. No matter the “no”s or the doubt from music industry folk (& myself), I continue to show up and I continue to make art and music that is 100% me. My Dad always lived life to the fullest and I think that stuck with me and helped to motivate me after his death. I can still hear his goofy, loud as hell voice cheering me on in the crowd from whatever 53985049th musical I was in and that shit keeps me going, honestly. My mom is also an incredibly hard worker, I mean this woman started working at Dunkin’ Donuts in middle school and worked her shifts before her classes! She came from no money and climbed her way to starting and owning her own business for 25 years! I want to make them proud and I think that’s important to know about me and my story. My parents didn’t raise a quitter & to quote the insane Chumbawamba, “I get knocked down, but I get up again” – and I’ll KEEP getting back up, every time!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Good question! Since live music is out for the moment, my main focus has been writing and getting this new music out there! I just released my first single in 5 years last Friday the 24th and have been promoting the shit out of it since! If you haven’t listened to SHAMOO (my new single) yet, go stream it where ever you listen to music! It’s a total summer party song and perfect for head bangin’ in the car while you sing along at the top of your lungs with your windows rolled down. Now that SHAMOO is out, I’ve been putting my focus into the next single which is set to drop in August, and the full EP which is set to drop sometime in the Fall of 2020. In addition to the new EP and singles, I’ve been working on learning the business side of the music industry, which has never been a strong suit of mine, and creating a ton of video content to support my musical releases!

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Hell ya! These spots are all in Redondo Beach and I’m about to hook you up! Go to Phannys for the best breakfast burrito of all time, Good Stuff for the ultimate local beach town vibe with food that is made with love, Kirari West Bake Shop for the best gluten free breakfast sandwiches and baked goods of all time, Chicken Maison for the Mediterranean goodness that is the Maison Special Salad – you’re welcome, Handel’s for ‘to die for’ homemade ice cream and last but not least, Redondo Beach Brewing Company where everything on the menu is bomb.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Aw man, I will say that I’ve been extremely lucky to have the family I have and to be surrounded by the coolest, most loyal and loving friends of all time. My parents have ALWAYS supported me growing up, my brothers have been huge in shaping my what you see is what you get attitude and overall f*ck your fear and do it anyway mentality and my friends just couldn’t be more supportive of my music and dedicated to lifting me up. I don’t owe my success to a particular book, artist or mentor – I owe my success to the friends and family I grew up with, the friends and family I now choose to be surrounded by and the insanely beautiful place I grew up in – the South Bay. I also have to shout out specifically my producer and co-writer, Matias Mora. It’s been 5 years since I last put music out and deciding to get back into the studio to find who I was as an artist again and release new music was TERRIFYING. The only person I knew I would be comfortable enough to dive into this shit show with was Matias – we’ve been making and playing music together on and off for the past 10 years… in fact, he was a huge part of my first solo EP! All of this to say that if it wasn’t for Matias and his unconditional support, commitment to helping me navigate my new musical journey, really going to the ends of the earth for me and holding my hand when I needed it emotionally, I don’t think the new EP would be as real, as special and as ME as it is. So, thank you to my family, my close circle of friends, my hometown and Matias for helping making this happen. Can’t wait to share this new music with you!!!!
