We had the good fortune of connecting with Maxine Bascue and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maxine, is there a risk you took at some point that you’re really happy about?
I think there is no reward without risk. I started MASONgrey as a creative outlet that was meant to be just for fun, it was a side hustle that allowed me to experiment with an industry I love, fashion, and also try my hand at running a business. I left my secure, corporate career to fully commit to MASONgrey because I really believed in its potential. I’m so glad I did!
What should our readers know about your business?
MASONgrey was built out of passion, meant to be a hobby or a side-hustle. I spent my weekends at Farmer’s Markets selling my pieces and I think that is something that really sets my business apart. It was created to be something that filled a void that my corporate job did not. It hasn’t always been easy, challenges that I could never dream of come have come my way, and with successes, also comes setbacks sometimes. I am constantly navigating those by simply not taking “no” for an answer. I have learned that every problem has a solution, and if there isn’t a solution, I’ll find one anyway. That is how I have overcome every challenge that I am faced with. I want the world to know that MASONgrey was built out of love and is meant to be fun! These pieces are made for every woman to feel comfortable, cozy and sexy in and that is something I am so proud of.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I’ve lived in LA my entire life, so I have my favorite spots nailed down… surprise, most of them are restaurants. Lucky for me, my best friends enjoy eating amazing food as much as I do. We would hit all of the best eateries- Soho house for brunch, lunch at Cecconi’s in West Hollywood, cocktails at Bel Air hotel, and if you think we aren’t going to Yasabel for dinner, well, you would be incorrect. Does anyone need menu recommendations? Combine that with a little shopping in Malibu and you are looking at a pretty perfect week.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband and daughter are my drive behind everything I do. I have an almost one year old daughter, Hunter, and everything I do is for her. I love that I am able to teach my daughter that you can do anything you put your mind to. I want to instill the value of independence and hard work, and I believe the only way to do this is to lead by example.
