Meet Daryl

We had the good fortune of connecting with Daryl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daryl, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been the guy with “good ideas” but they would always fizzle out. Everybody knows someone like that…lol…that was me. I would come up with these really good ideas, do a little work and then slowly they would just go away. But I think after Nip died, I promised myself that I would I would start and follow through on something…even if it failed. I promised myself that this would go 1 of 2 ways, its either going to work or I’m going to learn a lot of stuff. I also started realizing that real happiness for me was freedom. It wasn’t money, big houses, or nice cars….it was the freedom that comes with being completely in charge of your life. This started with being more in control of my finances and no longer relying on someone else’s company to feed me. I needed more sources of income and this started with creating a business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What i’m most proud of with Richmen is what our brand represents. Richmen is inspired by, and used to honor historically great men. Chapter 1 was dedicated to the 1960s. We picked 13 or so gentlemen from the decade that had a huge impact on the 1960s as well as how we live today. Men like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Harry Belafonte, JFK. Men from all walks of life that we believe put the greater good of humanity ahead of their selfish needs. We wanted to honor and highlight those type of men. In Chapter 2, we zoomed in and found inspiration from the everyday Richmen. The men who impact you daily so we found inspiration in the dads, and uncles, and coaches, mentors, and big brothers. I’m extremely proud to not only have a brand thats FIRE..like SUPER FIRE….but that actually stands on something. To me, thats hard!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Im the worst person to ask. Your trip would be super trash if you relied on me but let me see..lol. I’m pretty sure we would start at brunch. I’m always down for waffles and drinks so we’re 100% starting with brunch. Depending on the weather I would either say The District in Leimert Park or Nobu in Malibu to get the day started. I’d say after brunch we can head to The Bungalow in Santa Monica. Thats a cool spot for day drinking. BTW I would much rather day drink over night drink…lol….lol…But I love music so after we go home and clean up, I would take them to a show..assuming shows are back….but i would try to find a concert. Nothing crazy, I like the smaller shows over the big ones. Maybe grab some tacos or a some pizza after and then I’m going to sleep. They’re on their own after that. lol

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would have to start with Jonathan Smith(J5). There absolutely would be no Richmen without J5. We started the company together and have been building it together ever since. It would take me a month to talk about every individual that has played a role in getting us where we are now and I probably would still forget some people…but Richmen starts and ends with J5. Thats my brother.
