We had the good fortune of connecting with Senseii and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Senseii, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Looking back I thought I had a grasp on what I thought was balance, I completely had it misconstrued. Growing up my parents instilled that “you wont be successful if you don’t work hard”, yes that is evident but how I approached work life balance was me lacking in complete structure. After getting my daughter settled for bed, I used to work on music, editing my videos, and plan on new ideas until the next morning. Barely having enough rest & drinking a lot of caffeine took a tole on me through out time. Thinking as if I could get things done all at once and improvise if needed, but instead understanding its a marathon and things take time. Now that I’m starting to structure my days & time, I feel more confident & less stressed. I start my day at 5am going to the gym, spend the day my daughter, and work on music at night. I have to take better care of myself if I wanna be around to walk to my daughters down the aisle.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I used to think being different was a bad thing, maybe it stemmed from wanting to fit in when I was younger. But when I understood what made me different could also become my own strength, it lit a fire inside. Honestly I took a little hiatus to re evaluate somethings, going back to that work life balance question changes had to be made. Sorta like in Maslow’s pyramid I’m working my way from the bottom up again, building my foundations properly and executing efficiently. Last year I felt I was trying to expand too fast, because just as fast as something will come up it can come down. I wanted to try to prove to myself that I was capable of learning and trying new things from co-hosting an associates podcast, video editing, & producing. As if it was a notch on my belt or something to brag about, but it became exhausting on my mental. Naturally I love understanding the process of how things are being made so I welcomed new challenges but doing too much became a setback for me.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would show my friend all the touristy spots, I’m the type to just explore & go with the flow
-Drive down the PCH
-Los Angeles County Museum of Art
-Griffith Observatory
-Hollywood Walk of fame
-Venice Beach
-Santa Monica Pier
-Little Tokyo
-Hiking
Gotta have my Jollibee though !
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I can honestly say I wouldn’t be here today for the following people that helped influence me, help me find my light, voice & confidence. I’m a guest in the house of hip hop but when I was going through a lot their music is what helped me get through it J .Cole, Kendrick, Tupac, Drake, Mac Miller, Joey Badass & Pro Era, Black Thought, XXXtenatcion, Russ, Denzel Curry, Logic, Eminem, Lil Wayne, OutKast, Kanye West, T.I, Nipsey, Wu Tang Clan, Lupe Fiasco, Asap Rocky, Kid Cudi, Big Krit, Jhene Aiko, Isaiah Rashad, Schoolboy Q, Wiz Khalifa, T.Pain, Waka Flocka, Broadway Louie, Wyldlife Chop, Ftg K4sh, Bluff Gawd, TheMostHighKid, Dolo9, Reno Scott, Luminary Sounds (not listed in particular order)
When I started to produce for myself I went through so much tutorials, Youtube channels, & documentaries I wanted to give them a shoutout as well – Internet Money (Taz Taylor, Nick Mira), Curtiss King, Mass Appeal (Rhythm Roulette Series), Busyworkbeats, ThovoBeats
I wanted to give a big shoutout to my older sister Madelyn for always keeping me on the right path.
