We had the good fortune of connecting with Shannon Shiang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shannon, what do you attribute your success to?
I’ve had many important factors behind my success. I believe that with integrity, luck, talent, perseverance, and compassion anyone could be successful. Success is not a goal but a mentality. The relationships we build along the way will sometimes surprise us in the outcome.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe that if everyone used their talents to create a better world, the world would be a better place. This is the ethos of my art. Sacred symbolism is integrated to elevate the mindfulness of the person wearing the jewelry. It is also important to me to give back to the community or charity which inspired me.
Through fine art, I try to express that we live in a world that requires consciousness. This is achieved through repurposing disposed materials and micro-plastics from our beaches.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love the Venice canals so much that I live here. I would take them a stroll down to the beach for sunset and go to Abbot Kinney and eat at Julina or Santa Monica and eat at Urthe Cafe.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have received so much support through the years. I would like to thank my partner Peter Ruprecht; who is an amazing photographer and partner in life, my son Bodhi; who is a huge reflection, and the Burning Man community, including Lady Bee and Marian, David Graziano, Ray Nicosia, Crystal Rose, Brock Pierce, Alhia and Harlan Berger, Zen, Kelly and Dan Horowitz, Hans Haveron, Yarrow, and also all of those who have helped me create my art with so much energy and for all that have supported me throughout the years. The support from my friends and family and community is what has kept me designing. Big shoutout to all the artists who are supporting each other as well.
Also wanted to highlight the Paititi Institute and the Hoffman Process for my transformational well being.
