We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarena Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My initial thought process behind starting my own business was wanting a way to bring additional income into our household that was fun and gave me a break from the job that I was doing everyday. I didn’t have any photography knowledge but I was confident that I could learn and that my husband and I could run this business on the weekend. I had no idea that it would grow to be so much more and turn into not only a passion but my full time career!

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a photo entertainment company. I think what sets us apart from other companies is our design style. Photo booths were fun but kind of cheesy when we started. There was a random box of props with clown wigs and Viking hats…we put an upscale spin on photo booths by adding fancy backdrops, stylized props, and hi-res images. It wasn’t easy in the beginning because our price point was higher than the average company in our area but we continued to show value in what we were offering and now we are in high demand.
The thing we really want people to know is, things don’t have to be done the way they’ve always been done. You can take an existing product or service and make it your own by infusing your style!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would start with skating at Monroe Street Midway and then pizza at Mootz! Skating is a great source of exercise but it’s fun! Not to mention we would be able to check out a local DJ and hang out in the heart of the city! Also, who doesn’t love pizza?!? The pizza at Mootz is AMAZING!

We would definitely have to go shopping for makeup at The Lip Bar and hopefully catch a pop up from Fried Chicken and Caviar. Last but not least, my friend would probably end up hanging out with me at one of my many events over the week because I’m always working!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my Business Besties! In 2016 a group of event industry professionals were brought together by a planner and I am so grateful for her initial vision. Over the last 5 years, the ladies in our group have been my sounding board, they have been with me through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship, shared their ideas, encouragement, and expertise freely and pushed me to new levels. Our company definitely wouldn’t be where it is today without them; Le’Trice Penn, Amber Kirkland, Nik Cole, Shaleena Cole, and Cassandra Ward.
