Meet Danny Barragan | Musician, Artist and Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Danny Barragan and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danny, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to be remembered as someone who cared for people, recognized their value and spoke life into their dreams. There’s nothing like seeing someone find their passion, pursue it, and live it out.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are two creative expressions of my art, one musical, and one visual.

On the music side, I currently work with a team that creates soundtracks, library music, creative music that is used for various areas in the creative realm, commercials, artist production, film, etc. what is unique about this expression is that it is highly influenced by the 60s library music movement in the UK as well as the Psychedelic Rock era of music especially Turkish, Indian, Italian psych. The raw tones and grimy rhythmic Cadence has always been inspiring. These influences have helped shape a unique sound that has helped set us apart from many musical expressions.

As far as visual art, I have developed my own interpretation of modern day hieroglyphics, symbols with meanings associated, inspired by ancient communication and language and symbols, pictures, and designs, Primarily using black and white colors for bold symbols. Many times the music is paired with the art, but lately they have been two separate expressions.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would for sure take them to Barrio Logan here in San Diego, which is probably one of the more cultured areas in the city, great food, amazing people, and inspiring art.

We would then need to go see the sunset, at Sunset Cliffs, probably one of the more beautiful coastline booze here in San Diego!

And most definitely need to go have a great cup of coffee at James Coffee Co. which is an entire VIBE.

It would be great to go and walk around the museums at Balboa Park, and end with a nice dinner in North Park at one of its cozy and creative restaurants.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I need to shoutout Drumetrics.com, the team that really helped pull fresh creative musical and art expressions out of me, who have given me a platform to live out my creative expression.

I MUST shoutout, Pastor Miles Mcpherson at the Rock Church in San Diego, Ca who has given me a platform to grow in leading and loving people, and helping me to discover my gifts both artistically and spiritually.

Shoutout to the book Humility, by Andrew Murray, I have read this book twice a year for the past seven years, and it is an absolute game changer in the realm of self and position and posture of self to live a life that is others focused while having a healthy perspective of self.

Shoutout to the Death Defeaters an art collective I was a part of for several years that helped open up new creative opportunities and allowed me to take risks in finding my creative voice.

Shoutout to Invisible God, an art project lead by a good friend Joseph Kraft who opened my eyes to screen print art, wheat paste, and mixed media expressions.

Shoutout to 60’s analog gear, Turkish Psych Rock, David Axelrod, and countless vintage vinyl records that have been the soundtrack to my creative journey years, and years to come.

Shoutout to my amazing wife who has supported my art and creative journey for the last 23 years! And my 3 kids Zion, Melody and Destiny for their continued inspiration to be the best me for them!
