We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Schulman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
My friend texted me that he was planning his wedding and wanted my address so he could send me an invitation. After sending him my address we continued to have a conversation about his wedding planning, and that’s when I stopped to think… how many of these conversations is he having and how many people did he have to text asking them for their address?

Not only did my friend have to ask over 50 friends, family, and friends of their parents for their addresses, he also had to retype them out into an excel spread sheet. With my engagement around the corner, I knew I had to find a better way.

After searching online, I only found sites that allowed you to collect contact information, but you would still have to individually text them or email people. This didn’t solve my problem so I decided to create my own app, called TextMyLink.

TextMyLink allows you to collect contact information (addresses, emails, phone, etc) and RSVPs through a mass text message with a single click. The app texts out a custom website that allows your guests to fill in their contact information. All the information is organized and stored in the app and it can be easily exported to excel for cards, invitations, and guest lists. The app also allows you to send event communications, reminders, and updates to your guests.

We were able to build the app in time for our wedding and it was an easy process to collect our family and friends’ contacts. Im sorry to my friend that had to individually text all his friends, but it did help with the creation of my business.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TextMyLink was created to help people easily collect addresses, RSVPs, and contact information for their events through a mass text message. The business was created by me and and my wife (fiancé at the time) and has been in the App Store for almost 2 years now.

What sets us apart is the simplicity of the app. It only takes a few minutes to create your custom website, import your contacts, and text as many people as you’d like with a single click. We built it to fulfill a problem that most people go through when planning weddings.

We feel humbled to see where the business is at today. It wasn’t an easy road to get the app to launch. The only way we were able to overcome challenges was by doing research, putting in the work, and by being patient.

I learned that having a plan was extremely helpful to building a business. I knew exactly how I wanted the app to function and look from how a person logged in to how they send a text message. I had the entire app mapped out down to the button. Certainly things changed along the way, but the plan gave us a foundation and set the final goal.

TextMyLink is an app built by a couple in a similar position as our users. We built the app with our customers in mind, because we were the customer. As we used the app for our wedding, we made adjustments to the app that we thought other people might find useful. Being a user gave us a good perspective on the functionality of the app.

We hope that people that are in a similar situation as us will be able to find our app useful. There are a lot of event sites, and we appreciate our customers that have used TextMyLink.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is a tough one because there is so much to do in LA. I would encourage people to just walk around the Santa Monica area around 3rd street or take a stroll around Venice. A day at Malibu beach would treat you nicely. There are a bunch of free TV tapings that are a great intro into Hollywood life.

If you end up in Venice, Ospi has a vodka sauce pizza that is game changing. If you make it to the Valley, Tarzana has the best sushi at Sushi Ichiban Kan.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well this is an easy answer… the person that deserves the most credit and recognition is my wife. She has been the most supportive person in my life and during this business endeavor.

She’s the honest one to give me feedback on ideas and the one to help encourage me through the struggles and frustrations. My wife is my partner on this business, no big decision is made without her. No business is easy and they’re all time consuming. I have to give my wife a lot of credit and thanks for being there for me.
