Meet Jane Strausman | Musician

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jane Strausman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jane, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Patience is a virtue. Anyone who is chasing after their dreams should not give up. I believe the only reason why people give up is because what they are trying to accomplish is harder than they thought it would be. If you stay in the right headspace, and wait for your time, it will come. Everybody has their moment. There have been times I have wanted to give up. There are times that I have felt too old as a 20 year old in the music industry. But then I remember that I have so much time, and so much time to grow and perfect my craft. Always keep going, stay patient.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer/songwriter, I write my own material and release music on streaming services. Songwriting is my biggest strength. I tend to write from the perspective of an outsider, an observer. I am from New York City, and stepping into LA, it’s definitely a scene. I find it so interesting to watch and write about. I also write about my personal life, music is the only place I get vulnerable. I hope people can turn to my music and feel like someone understands them.

I got to where I am today by a lot of hard work. In this industry, there are always people who doubt your talent and abilities. After a whole life of having doors shut, I pushed through and kept writing and singing and producing music. It is not easy in a business where you are discouraged so much, but I’ve learned that when I create something I’m proud of I feel fulfilled, all that other noise goes quiet.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I moved to Los Angeles 2 years ago, and it is stunning.

Some food places I love are Takami Sushi in DTLA, breathtaking view. Beachwood Cafe in Hollywood Hills. And Angelini Osteria for one of the best pastas I’ve ever had.
Some tourist spots I can’t get enough of are Malibu Pier, 3rd Street Promenade, and The Getty.
My absolute favorite thing to do here is to drive on Mulholland and watch the sunset, it really clears my head and also helps me write.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom and dad deserve the world. They have always supported me and my music, and I am eternally grateful. My three younger siblings Will, Rj, & Kate. For always jamming out to my songs, giving me confidence in myself. Rachel & Lexi, for being the most badass friends and always sticking by my side.
