Meet Julie Harmer | Actress / Artist / Influencer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Harmer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I was a young girl my girlfriend and I were relentlessly putting on shows for her parents to watch. I would say that there was always some sort of spark in me. When I got older I started to work as a Background Actor in feature films and fell in love with the whole process. Eventually when I had more time for myself I wanted to take it a step further so I decided to take acting lessons and then when I felt ready I got myself an agent. I am now in a later stage of my life and enjoy every chance that I can get to Act.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have had various jobs in my life. I have gone from Secretarial work to Travelling Salesperson selling roofing asphalt with the territory of the Northeastern U.S. I have gone from Real Estate Agent to owning my own Petting Zoo. I have lived in Quebec, Ontario, B.C. and Florida. All of the above plays a part of who I am today. Another thing that I would be remiss in omitting is my love of painting. I paint oil on canvas and when I am painting I call it Me Time.

I love being an actor! I am definitely not in it for the money, I do it because I love it!

There is a lot of rejection in the life of an actor, but as I learned when working in Real Estate is – The more NO’s you get means you’re closer to a Yes.

I recently submitted myself to be in the Fabover40 competition and was selected to be a competitor. It is a platform to empower women in which part of the proceeds from the event goes to support the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

It was totally an honor for me just to be selected and I am proud to say that I made it all the way to the quarter finals and ended up in 5th place.

Not long ago I was invited to be part of an influencer campaign for a product review. The product is Daily Routine a probiotic designed exclusively for women.
Needless to say, I said yes.

I now consider myself an Actor/Artist/Influencer.

If you had a friend visiting you in Montreal, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting the city of Montreal, there are so many things to do! First I would take them to wander through Old Montreal where the streets are all cobblestones and have old buildings are where you will find the most picturesque historic attractions as well as the Old Port with it’s huge Ferris Wheel. I would take them to the top of Mont-Royal to see the beautiful view of the city. The city has many museums but my favorite is the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (which I have a membership to).

Montreal is known as the city of festivals. (before Covid-19) There is the Comedy Festival, the Jazz Festival the Fireworks Festival. There are also so many great restaurants to choose from, and the Nightlife is also something to check out on Saint Denis or Crescent Street.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate my Shoutout to my friend and mentor Teresa Picciano, writer/producer/actor, who is full of love, support and encouragement for me. She is the one who recommended that Shoutout LA reach out to me for an interview. I also have to give some credit and recognition to my family/husband and daughters for helping me through the process of running lines self-tapes etc. and all the craziness that goes along with it. I love you all!
