We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. LaShaunda T Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. LaShaunda Williams, BCTN, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was to show my children that you can create the life you want when you make a plan and work that plan. Another thought behind starting my own business was to work for myself. To me, nothing is better than being your own boss. It gives you the freedom to be the creative director for the things you want to do in life.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My interest in holistic health and wellness was born from me healing myself completely on a whole plant-based diet. Through this process I was amazed to learn that our bodies can heal on their own using nature’s gifts. I realized my purpose was to teach people how they could prevent diseases and heal themselves naturally. Excited about fulfilling my purpose led me to begin my studies into learning all that I could about holistic health for myself and to educate others. The journey resulted in becoming a Board Certified Traditional Naturopath and Naturopathic Reiki Master.
Owning a natural health and wellness spa has been a long time dream of mine. I am most proud of myself for getting out of my own way and making my dream a reality. I got serious with myself, set deadlines and held myself accountable to those deadlines. It was definitely not easy, it seemed like I was faced with every distraction in the world but I knew I had to stay the course so I put my head down and kept pushing through.
The challenges that I have faced in my business have taught me to remember my “why’s” Why did I get started? Why I can not allow myself to give up? Remembering those two questions helps push through the challenges. I work toward perfection with most things I do, sometimes delaying certain projects because I feel it is not ready , I remind myself although it may not be perfect it is done.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would introduce them to some of Chicago’s best vegan restaurants, go shopping on the Magnificent Mile downtown Chicago. Visit Navy Pier, go on a few boat rides and maybe go to a White Sox game.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout my children first, DeAndrea Linda & Nevaeh Lynda. They are my biggest supporters and motivators. They help me to stay on track, bluntly honest when I am not giving my all. When I am feeling down, they always know what to say to lift my spirits and tell me they love me no matter what. My family and friends have always been supportive of my endeavors.
I want to shoutout Dr. Sebi and Dr. Afrika who were pioneers in holistic health and my virtual mentors. Queen Afua who taught me how to heal my womb of past traumas and how to protect it. Dr. Akua, who is my continuing naturopathic educator and has been the example of naturopathic living.
