We had the good fortune of connecting with Joseph Kuras and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joseph, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Everyone is different and has their own way of doing things.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Tuning Fork has been a struggle, a joy, and my life (more-or-less) since day zero. I don’t think that anyone (other than those in a similar position ) really has any idea what it takes to run a restaurant. The work is hard, you’re on your feet all day; several to a dozen things happen at once- all of the time, something’s always breaking, or getting delivered; pop-in solicitors (the WORST!) demand your attention as do the peanuts (regular drunkards) at the bar. And thats all before dinner service LOL It takes LOVE and that is all I can say. And every day is anew. Our brand is about good vibes and good times, laid back and groovy. We do all the hard work so you can be yourself and enjoy some fabulous food and great live music.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Would definitely hit up Dodgers/Lakers/Kings/Rams games, or Hollywood Bowl for a show.
Rainbow Bar for drinks and pizza after.
I always take visitors to the Griffith Observatory, through Hollywood & the Sunset Strip, and Laurel Canyon. All the classic music destinations. Then Mullholland all the way west and then to Santa Barbara for seafood, wine, and fresh air.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Shoutout to Big Steve, one of the OG’s in the early days of cannabis shops. Without his flower I probably wouldn’t have been crazy enough to start this venture.
