We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Chang and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christine, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Other than deciding to work for myself, the single most important decision I made that has contributed to my success is working on my self-expression and communication by taking classes and doing personal growth. Good communication is the key to creating great relationships, which is the key to life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I was a Celebrity & Lifestyle photographer for 15 years, and have just started my career as an Author. My first book “Show Up: Finding Love for Independent Women” is now available on Amazon. It’s based on my dating experience before meeting my husband, as well as hundreds of conversations I’ve had with other independent, capable women who experienced the exact frustrations with dating in today’s landscape. My desire in life is to touch and inspire others, whatever form that may take. Getting to where I am today has definitely had its challenges. My vision is usually pretty clear – the challenging parts have always been getting over fears and mental blocks. Like with the career pivot – I had a difficult time taking less photography gigs because it was my identity for so long. Photography comes easily to me, I’m good at it, and it made me good money, but I knew I had hit the ceiling with it. I knew there was more ways for me to create and help others. I’ve been blogging for over 10 years about life lessons and personal growth so the transition to being an Author has felt pretty natural. I’m excited to write more books!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite thing about LA is that there is so many different things to do. In terms of activities, some of my favorite things to do are visit are Malibu Pier, bike ride from Venice to Playa, paddle board in Marina del Rey among the sealions, hike Temescal Canyon, visit the Getty, Griffith Park Observatory, ferry to Catalina, Disneyland, and walk along Abbot Kinney. In terms of food, some of my favorite restaurants are Sugarfish, Gjusta, Erewon, Elephante, Sawtelle Blvd. for Asian food, Casablanca (tortilla and tequila emporium), Lunetta, and the Culver Hotel.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my shoutout to my parents. Without them I wouldn’t have the confidence to pursue my creative career.
