We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Daniel Kimbley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Daniel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor to my success as a husband, as a father, as a business owner and as a man has been my ability to do the work required to become who I said I would become. I make commitments to myself and I stick to them. I think that too often, so many of us have amazing ideas on how to grow, on how to be as people, but it’s nothing more than an idea and there is little action. To be a successful human being or to have a successful brand is delivering on what you say you’re going to do. It’s easy to say that we want some specific outcome, but it’s much more difficult to do the work required to create that result for yourself, for your family, or for your clients. Most people think that purpose in life is what you do. I’m slowly learning that life’s purpose is actually who you’re becoming. I live by the principle of Be, Do, Have. In order to get what you want in life, you have to Become the person who would have your desired result first. Once you have the confidence and clarity mentally and you Become that person, you’ll start Doing the things necessary. This mental clarity and action will lead you to Having what you want to have.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is Nexus Family Chiropractic. We provide high-end chiropractic care to entrepreneurs, whole-families, pregnant mommas and kiddos.

By definition, Nexus means “connection linking two or more things or the central most important point or place”. Your nervous system is not only the most important organ system in the body but is also your connection to life. We are a chiropractic team committed to connecting you to an active, results-based lifestyle. One that connects you to the community, to family, and to presence, productivity, and profit by ensuring optimal brain and nervous system function.

We specialize in brain-based chiropractic care that addresses each individual’s ability to perform optimally. We are not a pain practice, we are a prevention and performance-based practice. We assess each client on an individual basis and tailor our care to the exact needs of each person.

What sets us apart is how different of an experience we create for clients in our office. We set the precedent for our clients to feel at home in our office. We are also set apart by the results we get with clients. Unfortunately, we end up being a last resort for many clients when nothing else has worked, but we always give them hope and get results. From clients who were told they would never run again, to getting off of medication clients were told they would be on for their entire lives, to seeing kids who were told they would never read or speak doing so. We get uncommon results because we take an uncommon approach to care and create a guaranteed exceptional experience and atmosphere every step of the way.

I’m most excited about bringing the style and care we provide to more people by creating a training/coaching/consulting platform to teach other chiropractors our techniques that we use in our office alongside our systems and procedures to allow people all over the world to experience what we’ve created here at Nexus.

Business-wise, I got to where I am by continuing to invest in myself and realize that I’m my most valuable asset. I’ve been willing to take big risks in my life–moving from Indiana to California to start a business where I knew no one, for starters–that most people wouldn’t be willing to take. The trick with taking risks is that if you ask yourself, “what’s the worst that could happen” and then answer it honestly–your answer is likely going to seem much less scary than the way you initially felt. This strategy, known as fear-setting will allow you to take action. Worst case scenario for me was that if our business failed, then I would have to go back into teaching. If that’s the worst that could have happened, then why wouldn’t I take the risk of earning my doctorate and start a practice in the best place in the world to live.

It’s definitely not easy to take risks the way we have. In the beginning, there were weeks when my wife and I wondered how rent was going to get paid, how we would pay our employees, or even if our car would make it to the office. We put trust in God that it would work out, and it always has. I think the main thing we learned through all of the challenges is that if you’re living out your passion and life’s purpose then the right people are going to show up in your life at the right time for it to all work out. The more you can go all in on yourself, the more you’re going to steward in all aspects of your life. Invest in yourself, you’re the only one who can guarantee that you get the results you’re looking for in life. It’s already within you, waiting to be expressed.

I think right now, the thing I want people to know about our brand or story is that in the late spring we are dropping a full-length documentary about our practice and the amazing results of the families we’ve been fortunate enough to take care of. Find it, watch it, it’ll change your life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well, we live in South OC so here we do have the best time ever. I’d definitely be dragging them out to surf with me, however, in an attempt to keep our lineups less crowded I won’t tell you what breaks. Ramo’s House brunch would definitely be on the agenda. We’d hang out at the beach daily, and after surfing first light hit some of our favorite hikes at Nix Nature Preserve or Top of the World in Laguna Beach.

We would definitely take them out to dinner when they were here. Our favorite local spot is Jack’s Restaurant. They serve up grass-fed, free range, wild caught meat and have some awesome vegan and organic options for food. It’s a secret spot for clean eats that I wish everyone knew about. We would also eat at Café Maison where you’re always treated like family, they have an amazing breakfast and dinner menu. We love Oak in Laguna Beach, Vibe in Costa Mesa/Dana Point and South of Nick’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate this shoutout to my wife, Heather Kimbley, who has always believed in me more than I’ve believed in myself. She does whatever is required to allow me the capacity to become more. She’s made sacrifices too many to mention for us to create the life we now have the privilege of living. I don’t have to prove anything to her, and she has no expectations from me except for me to always do my best. With that support, I get such a sense of confidence and relief that I don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I’m going to be loved and supported no matter what. That love and support gives me the fire to keep moving forward on promises to myself, which allows me to continue to impact more people’s lives. I would be doing a grave disservice if I didn’t also shoutout Garrett J. White, founder and CEO of Wake Up Warrior, and my coach Dr. Michael Buffington. These two have created a space for me to find my authentic voice and shown me—very specifically– how to work on myself so that I can be more for me, my wife, my daughter, and my clients.
