We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Pina and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I would be nowhere if I didn’t take risks. Every major milestone in my life and in my career came from taking a risk, whether it was moving across the country, starting a production company, making my first film, or taking a spontaneous trip abroad that would present me with new life experiences. You can’t change if you never jump. Put yourself in new situations, challenge yourself, trust your gut, and take a chance on yourself. That’s the only way to grow and the only way to truly live. Be fearless.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love telling unique stories that connect people, show a new perspective, or have a strong message. My art is a regurgitation of what I’ve observed and learned in life, re-organized and exported in a way that’s entertaining and valuable for audiences.

I’m most excited for the project I’m currently working on, a feature, that will be released in 2023. The story is very personal to me and stays true to my style as an artist.

Nothing worth value ever comes easy. I’ve worked extremely hard to get where I am, and I will continue to do so. That doesn’t mean, I can’t also have balance in my life. This has been an extremely fun process for me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting me in Los Angeles, I would tell them to come with an appetite. We would eat our way through the city, and not just at the big name restaurants everyone knows. The smaller mom and pop spots are where it’s at.

We’d start the day with brunch at The Butcher, The Baker, The Cappuccino Maker only because it’s close to my house and they’ll want a photo with a colorful cappuccino for Instagram. I’d probably take them to an art gallery afterwards, maybe Hauser & Wirth. Then, since we’re in DTLA, we’d have to grab a cocktail at In Sheep’s Clothing (a chic speakeasy that hasn’t been a secret for years).

Early dinner around 4 or 5 at Quarters for KBBQ so we can skip the wait, although there’s some new places I’ve also been wanting to try. Then, nap, probably go to warehouse party in DTLA, and spend the next morning relaxing at a pool (I wish The Standard was still open), drinking shakes from Body Energy Club, before getting lunch at Han Bat Su Lung Tang or Daybird and dinner at either Casa Blanca or Little Fatty. Oh! Nightcap at Monty’s for vegan milkshakes, just because.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my super talented production crew, my supportive friends, and loving family. Thanks for hopping on this ride with me!
