We had the good fortune of connecting with Porchia Shallowhorn and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Porchia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
The main reason I’ve chosen to pursue a creative career is because its a way for every human being to express themselves. No matter if its done in a negative or positive way, the expression is still there. We all go through life and many times people don’t know how to express themselves verbally because of fear or lack of confidence. So I believe putting your emotions into something very positive can become very powerful. As humans we want people to understand us because if you in someone’s space you need to know them. Also, you can inspire people to bring forth their gifts too. Some people can take their gifts further too, but it comes with so much hard work there is not too many that can take the pressure to come out like a diamond. I have to say God given talents need you to have a relationship with God because gifted people go through so many attacks. For example, I love some Micheal Jackson and even though he is not here with us on earth: his presence is felt through his music. Ive never met Micheal but as a kid I had the chance to go to his ranch. It was a wonderful experience; people can feel you through your creativity when it is coming from a sincere place. Thats why I like to use my creativity to inspire the next person to never give up and keep going. Nothing is going to be perfect but if you can dig yourself out of holes with the help of God on your side anything is possible. So be creative and express yourself; make sure you are letting it all out no matter what you have been through. EXPRESS YOURSELF!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m just proud that I’ve made it this far because what you go through in life can easily discourage you, that’s why you need God. When we are weak, if we seek Jesus he will give you strength in our weaknesses. Through life’s experiences is how I got to where I’m at today; fighting and never giving up. Nothing comes easy but at times I wish it was easy. But what I’ve learned is that if you don’t go through nothing you can never grow. Getting things in a easy way does not make you learn anything because it took you nothing to get it. The reason God takes us through long suffering is because people get things but they don’t appreciate people or things. Some people go from the bottom to the top and forget where they come from. I never want to become a person who forgets that before the success I was like others trying to figure it out. There are many challenges I had to overcome and there are still more challenges to come. But I will forever fighting to keep going. Along this journey, I became more wiser, smarter and stronger because that’s what the fight will do for those that keep fighting to the end. I want the world to know, if you got to separate from the crowd to get where you need to be know that its ok: you may feel like your alone but you have to keep fighting to be a better you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some great places to visit would be Hollywood, Downtown L.A., Knotts Berry Farm, Magic Mountain, Universal Studios, Big Dream, Going Ice Skating, World On Wheels, We would be so lit because everyone I like to hangout with is so lit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
God gets the credit because without him there would be no me standing in my right mind!
